90 Day Fiancé: Why was Alina fired?

90 Day Fiancé Alina Kozhevnikova was fired over resurfaced racist posts which she had shared in the past and came to the attention of the show.

90 Day Fiancé is the TLC flagship show which is one of the channel’s most popular reality format shows.

The show is premised, “Using a unique 90-day engagement visa, four women travel to the US to live with their American fiancés for the first time. Each couple has 90 days to wed before the visas expire and the women must return home,” according to IMDb.

The show recently faced a scandal after firing one of its recurring features, Alina Kozhevnikova, after she appeared on the show since season five.

The reason for her dismissal was that old racist posts on her social media resurfaced. The production team took the hard stance to fire Kozhevnikova to be emphatic on their stance about racism.

How many seasons of 90 Day Fiancé are there?

90 Day Fiancé first premiered on TLC in 2014. Since then, the series has had a total of nine seasons. Currently, the ninth season, which premiered in April 2022, is still ongoing and is now set to air its seventeenth episode on Sunday, 7 August 2022.

In order to watch the remaining episodes of the current season, you have to get a live TV streaming subscription.

The most touted of the leading live TV streaming services include DIRECTV Stream, fuboTV, Philo, and Discovery+. Each platform has different price ranges to better suit your budget and other viewing needs.

90 Day Fiancé: Why was Alina fired?

Alina Kozhevnikova was first introduced into the 90 Day Fiancé franchise in season five of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days. She is a Russian who is in a relationship with American, Caleb Greenwood.

The couple garnered attention as Kozhevnikova became the first person with disabilities to be a part of the 90 Days Franchise. In light of this, the reason for her dismissal from the show was all the more shocking.

In January 2022, the first damaging headlines about Kozhevnikova started emerging. This is as her old racist posts resurfaced and were shared on social media.

One of the first was a screenshot of a post on her Facebook post detailing how was she invited to a “ni**a party.”

She used the derogatory term eight times in her post. Another circulated post was from her Instagram, in which she wore a bandana, drew on eyebrows and a moustache, and her caption stated, “Yo n*qqa gotta do sum gold diggin’…”

Another post from Instagram that resurfaced was one in which she referred to Hugh Grant’s Chinese ex as his “Asian wife”, suggesting that she would not date him because he has kids with his ex-girlfriend not wife who would “be kinda Asian.”

At the time, she addressed the matter with a cryptic post on Greenwood’s Instagram story stating, “For everyone asking about the recent buzz. Let’s keep watching and see what happens.”

90 Day Fiancé’s official statement on Alina Kozhevnikova

90 Day Fiancé made its stance very clear on where it stands on racism. It used Alina Kozhevnikova as an example of how the show will deal with racist personalities.

In the shared statement they first confirmed that, “TLC discontinued filming with Alina Kozhevnikova following the recent discovery of her past social media statements.”

Thereafter, they distanced themselves from Kozhevnikova indefinitely, adding, “She will not appear on the upcoming Tell All, any future seasons of the franchise and starting next month, she will no longer appear on Before the 90 Days.” Lastly, they made it clear that, “TLC does not tolerate racism or discrimination of any kind.”

Did Alina Kozhevnikova apologise?

Alina Kozhevnikova finally addressed the matter of her racist posts and subsequent dismissal from the show on her YouTube channel with a video shared in February 2022.

In the video she acknowledged her past tweets and issued a public apology, stating that she was extremely sorry and adding, “I’m still working on being better. I really am open for some constructive criticism… Mistakes are a part of it.” Moreover, instead of excusing her posts, she stated, “I’m not looking for empathy or to make excuses.”

Did the internet forgive Alina Kozhevnikova?

Alina Kozhevnikova may have categorically apologised for her past racist posts and suggested that she was working on herself, but the internet does not seem to have such a short-term memory.

This is as after her apology video on YouTube, another deleted racist post from her past resurfaced. This time, it was one in which she dressed in Indian traditional attire, and the caption of her post read, “Got married today! Became a 134th wife!”
