Did Aetna buy SilverScript?

Aetna has integrated its plans with SilverScript, as it is owned by CVS Health, which is also the owner of the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (PDP), SilverScript.

Aetna sold its PDPs to CVS in 2006, which aligned with the fact that CVS had sold its individual PDPs through the wholly-owned subsidiary called SilverScript. Whilst the companies worked together for a considerable amount of time, Aetna and SilverScript merged their benefit plans from the beginning of January 2020.

In a joint statement, the companies stated, “Starting 1 January 2020, your prescription drug coverage will be called Aetna Medicare Rx offered by SilverScript. The plan is designed exclusively for <Plan EGWP Client Sponsor name> retirees. You’ll receive a Confirmation of Enrollment notice once you’re enrolled. SilverScript is a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan (PDP) owned by CVS Health. As Aetna is also owned by CVS Health, we are integrating our plans with SilverScript.”

Aetna and SilverScript also merged their logos, and subsequently worked together to make sure that clients became aware that they would be working as a joint entity going forward.
