Did Bijuu Mike deserve to be cancelled?

Bijuu Mike faced major reputational damage in December 2020, when he was called out for offending the LGBTQ+ community and the gaming community at large.

Bijuu Mike, real name Michael Lucas, is an American YouTuber who has gained popularity for his gaming videos and vlogs. The 28-year-old has grown to become one of the most prominent gamers in the online community, with over 2.6 million subscribers on his channel.

As many of his fans watch his videos religiously, many of them witnessed him offending the LGBTQ+ community as it happened.

According to reports, Bijuu Mike initially suggested that he does not have a problem with members of the LGBTQI+ community.

However, when asked about the LGBTQI+ community, he allegedly muttered what he had said again, which alluded to the fact that he was sexualising a minor.

Following the incident, which took place in October 2020, Bijuu Mike quickly began to lose subscribers and online accounts were created to boycott his channel.

He was also being linked to terms such as paedophile, homophobe and transphobe, which severely damaged his reputation.

In November 2020, Bijuu Mike released a series of tweets explaining his side of the story.

He stated, “I need to clear this up. I do not ship anyone in danganronpa, nor do I think abuse is okay. I’m not a ‘shipper.’ I made some comments or light jokes but that is all they were. Keep in mind, these are characters in a video game. This does not in any way shape or form reflect real life. I forgot to say I deleted my tweets because I realized arguing is pointless, and I wanted the drama to stop but it didn’t help. I will not delete this. I just want to enjoy the game with my fellow people who support me. I don’t want to offend anyone.”

Fans have been debating whether to accept his apology or not, and have questioned why he came up with such inappropriate thoughts in the first place.

Bijuu Mike has managed to regain some of his supporters, whilst some are on the fence about his character.
