In the Multiverse of Madness, Doctor Strange had two post credit scenes, the first of which teased the premise of the next film and introduced a new MCU.
One of the most anticipated blockbusters of 2022 was Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The movie, which is the sequel to the 2016 original film, Doctor Strange, was announced in 2019 and scheduled to be released in May 2021.
Due to the delays that COVID-19 pandemic brought on in the film and television industry, the movie was only released in May 2022.
After its official release, it was the two post credit scenes that excited fans the most. The first one not only teased the premise of the third film, but it also introduced a new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) superhero to the roster.
What is the story of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?
The premise of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is, “Doctor Strange teams up with a mysterious teenage girl from his dreams who can travel across multiverses, to battle multiple threats, including other-universe versions of himself, which threaten to wipe out millions across the multiverse. They seek help from Wanda the Scarlet Witch, Wong and others.”
The screenplay was written by acclaimed screenwriter, Michael Waldron, and in the directing chair was filmmaker, Sam Raimi, who is most famous for directing Marvel’s first three Spider-Man films.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness marked his return to directing a Marvel blockbuster.
Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: Post credit scene surprise reveal
Recent MCU films have been known to have two post credits scenes.
The first is usually a preview or teaser of what fans can expect in the next MCU film and its premise, or teasers of what the next instalment in the series of films will be centred around.
The second post credit scene is as a scene that references a moment in the film, for which the scene either provides a more definitive conclusion, or which it subverts.
For most fans of the MCU films, the post credit scene is a must-see, and the second is more for avid fans or people who are not in a rush to leave the cinema. Therefore, we will discuss the first post credit scene and its significance in teasing what to expect next.
The scene plays just after the major credits of all the major stars, director, and writers in the film. The post credit scene is believed to have answered one of the biggest questions throughout the sequel, which is, “What happened to Doctor Stranger’s third eye?”
While Doctor Stephen Strange is walking down a street in New York, a woman in purple crosses Strange’s path. The woman then tells Strange that he caused an incursion upon arrival, challenging him by saying, “And we’re going to fix it.”
Tearing a hole in reality and walking into the tear, the woman turns back and teases, “Unless you’re afraid?” This prompts Stephen to show his third eye before he replies, “Not in the least.”
Who is the woman in purple on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?
The woman who appears during the first post credit scene is revealed to be the Dark Dimension Sorcerer Supreme, Clea. Moreover, the character serves as Dr Strange’s love interest as the two end up getting married.
The MCU superhero introduced and marked the debut of acclaimed actress, Charlize Theron to the MCU. After the premiere of the film in May 2022, Theron officially confirmed her introduction to the MCU with an Instagram post.
But before that, the South African born actress shared a suggestive post on Instagram teasing her reveal .
Michael Waldron on Charlize Theron’s introduction as Clea
Michael Waldron explained why Theron was only introduced in the sequel, stating, “We knew that we wanted to introduce Clea. She’s Strange’s great love in the comics and it felt to me like Strange wasn’t at the point at the start of our movie where he was ready to meet the love of his life. It felt like we had to close the loop with he and Christine Palmer. And so after she gives him her wisdom to not be afraid of loving someone, then it felt like we were right to tease what could be eventually with he and Clea.”
What was the second post credit scene on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?
The second post credit scene in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness added comical relief at the end of the film.
The scene referenced a scene in the movie where America Chavez accidentally stole pizza balls, which resulted in an argument between Chavez, Strange, and Pizza Poppa.
To end the argument, Strange casted a spell on Pizza Poppa which caused him to punch himself for days on end. In the post credit scene, the spell wears off, and Poppa exclaims, “It’s finally over!”
