Father Brown will return with its tenth season after it was speculated to have ended because of its ninth season finale and initial delays.
In the United Kingdom, one of the most beloved crime-drama series is the BBC One daytime series Father Brown.
This series has grown in popularity with the growing advancements and saturation of paid subscription video-on-demand streaming platforms, which have exposed the series to a new international audience.
However, due to delays brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected the rollout of season nine, and the spectacle that the season ended with, many believed that the end of the show’s run was fast approaching.
But this was demystified as season 10 has been confirmed, along with a projected release date for the season.
Where is Father Brown filmed in 2022?
Father Brown is set in the fictional small village of Kembleford, England.
As such, fans have developed a growing fascination with the actual location of the picturesque village which captures the aesthetic of the 1950s in England after the end of the Second World War and the cautious optimism of the time.
Season 10, which was shot in 2022, returned to Blockley, a village in Gloucestershire County. Specifically, the Church of St Peter and St Paul, and the villages of Winchcombe, Upper Slaughter, Kemerton and Guiting Power are the primary shooting locations used.
Father Brown: Season 10 confirmation after speculated end
Father Brown season nine was a milestone season for the second longest running daytime series on the BBC One channel. This is as the season concluded its 10-episode run with the hundredth episode of the series since it first premiered in 2013.
As such, the final episode of season nine was filled with cameo returns from some of the series most memorable characters.
This includes the likes of Alex Price who returned to his role as Sid, Emer Kenny as Bunty, and Nancy Carroll in the role of Lady Felicia, after her departure during season eight.
In light of the showstopper season finale, many speculated that the series was bidding farewell to its fans.
However, it took official word from John Burton, who plays the role of Sergeant Goodfellow in the series, to confirm that there would be a tenth season of the series.
In a tweet on his Twitter page in May 2022, Burton confirmed that season 10 has been greenlit. The tweet also detailed in part that, “Father Brown series 10 starts shooting on May 16th. I’ll keep you posted with pics, news etc when I can share more.”
While he did not share images and updates during the shooting of the show as promised, Burton took to Twitter again in August 2022 to confirm that the shooting of the new season had concluded.
He wrote about the experience of this year’s shooting, explaining, “I had a fab time during the glorious summer months in the Cotswolds, I met so many new friends, it was tough saying goodbye this year.”
When will Father Brown season 10 be released?
Father Brown season 10 was initially speculated to have a release date that was in winter 2022/2023. This was due to the fact that the series was shot in the summer of 2022.
Therefore, without the delay of the global COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in the year delay between season eight and season nine of the series, it was fair to expect a sooner turnaround in the release.
It has since been reported that BBC One has projected a January 2023 release, which is in line with the widely speculated release date for the milestone season.
What is Father Brown’s season 10 premise?
No details have been revealed about the premise of the tenth season of Father Brown. However, it is safe to assume that the show will continue to follow its established episodic murder solving mysteries, while the lives of our main characters continue to be a secondary story device.
As such, it is safe to presume that lead actor, Mark Williams, will reprise his role as Father Brown and John Burton already confirmed his return. No other details about the new season have been announced.
