Anime is a popular genre that has grown in terms of the general understanding of the sub-genres which make up the entirety of the genre. One of the popular and well recognised sub-genres in anime is the isekai sub-genre, which blends fantasy and sci-fiction.
One of the more popular isekai anime series is The Saga of Tanya the Evil. It first premiered in 2017 and the isekai anime series returned in 2019 with a film.
This disappointed fans as they were expecting a second season. However, in 2021, the second season was confirmed without a release date for its actual release.
What does “isekai” mean?
While anime can be widely understood as a blend of fiction and fantasy, the isekai sub-genre has a specific distinction. This is that the protagonist in an isekai is transported through a portal from the world they knew to a new one.
During this transportation, they undergo a transformation from human to a slime, animal, or a monster or supernatural being in the new world.

Is The Saga of Tanya getting a second season?
The Saga of Tanya the Evil is based on the series of isekai novels written by Japanese author, Carlo Zen, and it was originally released in print under the title Youjo Senki: Saga of Tanya the Evil.
The release of the first series of the novels inspired the isekai anime series that were published in 2013. Four years later, between January and March of 2017, the first season of the series premiered. Like the series of novels, the series stayed true to the original story’s premise.
It tells the story of Tanya, a little girl with blonde hair and blue eyes who looks innocent at first glance, but Tanya is a reincarnation of a ruthless Japanese businessman who was killed by one of the workers he had fired.
His reincarnation into the magic world where there is a raging set during the First World War, was punishment, as Tanya did not believe in God. Even after his reincarnation, he still does not believe, as he still refers to God as Being X.
After the first season’s conclusion with a total of 12 episodes, fans were waiting for the confirmation of a second season.
However, this did not come, as in 2019, a film was released instead of a second season. Two years later, the studio behind the isekai confirmed that season two is in production.
When is season two of The Saga of Tanya the Evil set for release?
In June 2021, an official teaser was released confirming that The Saga of Tanya the Evil was in production for its much-anticipated second season. This news was widely welcomed by fans following the slight disappointment of the 2019 film.
Ironically, the confirmation video in question was rather noncommittal in that it did not share any other details in this regard.
The video did not share the release date, which was believed to indicate that fans had to wait until 2022 for the season two release.
But it has been over a year since the release of the confirmation video, which means that fans could be looking towards a 2023 or 2024 release date.
What is season two’s The Saga of Tanya the Evil plot?
Since season one, Tanya has been wanting to move up the ranks so she can finally have a peaceful desk job. However, because she is a powerful sorcerer, she is continually placed in the front lines of war as she can kill an entire army with a single bullet.
It seemed, in the film, that she would get her wish. But as God continually tries to make Tanya believe in Them, they continue to send her out to war.
In season two, it will be no different according to the confirmation video. However, this time around, Tanya needs to fight off enemies from the west, east, and south to protect the Empire from its growing enemies, because of their victories in the past.
Which characters are set to return for The Saga of Tanya season two?
Since Tanya is the protagonist of the isekai anime series, it makes sense that she will return to the helm of the series. However, other details regarding returning characters have not been released. Hence, there is no way of knowing which other characters will return.
The plot of the second season has also not been shared as the voiceover in the season two confirmation video did not give away the plot of the upcoming season.
