In Love Is Blind, Andrew Liu is reported to have used eye drops for his dry eyes and not to fake tears, as it has been suggested.
Love Is Blind returned with its third season in October 2022 and the first five episodes have been released to date.
The unconventional dating reality show which sees hopefuls go through a phase of blind dating before meeting to see whether love is really blind, has continued to give reality show magic moments.
The show gave rise to the popularity of fan-favourite Andrew Y. Liu, who in one of the episodes, is seen using eye drops before delivering an emotional confessional.
Viewers believed that this was to create fake tears, but the official word is that he has a dry eye problem.
Andrew Y. Liu as a fan-favourite
Andrew Y. Liu is a former operations director turned wildlife photographer. In season three of Love Is Blind, he is one of the fan-favourites due to how polarising his views on intimacy have been, to say the least.
But it is probably his “acting skills,” which have made him the frontrunner of season three in terms of hopefuls looking for love in season three.
This is as viewers are seemingly not interested in whether the contestants stay together, but, it seems like viewers are interested in the drama that unfolds in the run of each new season.
Love is Blind: Why did Andrew use eye drops?
From the first episodes of Love is Blind, Andrew seemingly hit it off with Nancy. However, Nancy chose someone else and not Andrew after he proposed to her.
This resulted in the contentious confessional which is still debated as to whether he was being genuine or not.
After Nancy rejected his proposal, Andrew was asked how he feels about the rejection, in reply, he then asked the producers and director whether the cameras are still rolling, as he wants to use his eye drops.
Seemingly noticing the potential virality of the question and subsequent actions, the producers stated that if his eyes were experiencing problems he could use his eye drops.
This is when he proceeded to use the eye drops and went on to answer the question.
Andrew answered the question by stating, “I never thought I could care for someone that could bring me to tears”. All the while “tears”, or the eye drop serum, were rolling down his cheeks.
This sparked a debate on Twitter about whether this was genuine or not. For the most part, social media suggested that the producers and director of the confessional were intentional in sharing the “eye drop moment” because they, too, knew the potential virality of the clip.
Therefore, whether Andrew was really crying or not was neither here nor there.

To date, Andrew Y. Liu crying in season three of Love Is Blind is still one of the biggest highlights of the season so far.
Therefore, it made sense that after the release of the episode in which Andrew “cried”, hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey were questioned on the validity of Andrew’s tears and emotions following Nancy turning down his proposal.
When asked, Nick said that he was alerted to the fact that Andrew’s personal humidifier had broken. Vanessa asserted in an interview with Bustle that, “Oh, he wasn’t doing fake tears. He was taking care of his dry eyes”.

Andrew Y. Liu has used his new reality star status to promote his wildlife photography career path as his Instagram only features images of wildlife.
Therefore, he has not spoken about whether his eye drops were for his dry eyes or to make viewers believe that he was actually crying over losing Nancy.
Instead, his stories revealed that while the rest of the season three cast was celebrating the availability of the first episodes of the season, he was with his family where they had hosted a watch party for him as they shared their reactions to the first episodes of season three and his eye drop scene.
Andrew loses Nancy, but there is hope
While Andrew may have lost out on a potential relationship with Nancy and given the fact that he would have rather spent his time with his family, this does suggest that maybe he did not find the love he was looking for on Love Is Blind.
However, it seems that not all is lost as a fellow Love is Blind alum has reached out to Andrew wondering if he is still single.
Love Is Blind: Brazil alum, Ana Prado, took to her Instagram stories to reach out to Andrew asking if he is still single.
During her season, Prado had ended up with Shayan Haghbin, but it is clear that this is not the case anymore, meaning that Andrew may just find love through the reality show after all.
