Shaunette Renée Wilson, on Tuesday, 20 April 2021, confirmed her departure from popular medical drama series, The Resident. Wilson played one of the lead characters on the show, Mina Okafor, a Nigerian-born doctor working at Chastain Memorial Hospital. Her last episode aired earlier this week, much to the displeasure of loyal fans of the show. Considering the integral role she played in the series, fans have been questioning the real reason for her unexpected departure.
In a statement shared by TVLine, Wilson was quoted as saying, “After deeply thoughtful reflection, I approached the producers some time ago asking to leave the show and they agreed — and gave my character a wonderful sendoff. I am appreciative of them for allowing me to embody as beautiful of a soul as Dr. Mina Okafor. I would also like to thank the studio, network, cast, crew and, most of all, the wonderfully dedicated fans of The Resident for their support over the last four seasons.”
