Shoresy season 2 has yet to be confirmed, which is not surprising, considering that it has been just under 4 months since it debuted on Hulu.
Shoresy premiered on Hulu in May 2022, after an almost two-year wait following the announcement of the spin-off series of the Canadian hit comedy, Letterkenny.
The debut season was a critical success, as the series has been rated a score of 8.5 out of 10 on IMDb.
Given the success of the first season, it seems that fans had expected a quick turnaround in terms of Hulu announcing whether there would be a second season of the sports comedy series or not.
But as of October 2022, Hulu has yet to make any announcement regarding the future of the series.
Is Shoresy the same as Letterkenny?
Shoresy is created, written, and fronted by Canadian actor and film and television producer and writer, Jared Keeso. Keeso also creates, writes, and stars in the lead role in the original show that inspired Shoresy, called Letterkenny.
But the series, aside from having Canada as the backdrop of their settings, are not the same. Letterkenny is not based on a story, as the sitcom is based on compelling characters, their relationships, and everyday lives in a small town.
Shoresy, on the other hand, is based on a story of Shoresy joining the senior AAA hockey team in Sudbury on a quest to never lose again.
Shoresy Season 2 yet to be confirmed
Given the success of the first season of Shoresy, fans had expected that the paid subscription video-on-demand streaming service, Hulu, would be quick to announce a second season.
Similarly to how Apple TV was quick with its announcement of the renewal of the runaway hit sitcom, Ted Lasso, which was confirmed prior to the season one finale for two more seasons.
But it seems that Hulu is more tentative in this regard. It is not uncommon for streaming services like Hulu to take months to confirm a cancellation or the renewal of a show.
The reason for this is simple – the streaming service may still be looking at the performance and mileage that the show is still getting on its platform in order to gauge whether a new season is viable.
As such, a rule of thumb to use to figure out whether a show has made the cut or not is to look at the date of the previous season’s premiere date.
With the COVID-19 pandemic now becoming a thing of the past, streaming services are reverting to scheduled releases of their programming.
As such, if May 2023 comes and goes, and a Shoresy renewal is still not announced, it may be safe to assume that a new season of the sitcom is not on the cards.
Theory: Why Shoresy season 2 has not been confirmed
This is speculation on our end, but a possible reason why Shoresy season two may not be announced yet might relate back to the original series which inspired its spin-off, Letterkenny.
Co-creator and star of Letterkenny, Jacob Tierney took to Instagram in September 2022 to announce that the cast and crew of the sitcom were shooting a new season of Letterkenny.
Considering that Jared Keeso fronts and writes for both of the sitcoms, it could be that Keeso and the team are looking to wrap up Letterkenny’s new season before making any announcements about a next season.
Season 2 plot and release date
With no announcement about a second season, it is difficult to provide any details about the plot of a second season if Shoresy is renewed.
But the season one finale did lay the groundwork in terms of the possible plot of the new season if it is renewed. Season one ended with the Sudbury Bulldogs losing to the Soo Cyclones in the championship.
But after seeing the team’s hard work and dedication, Nat allowed them another chance, which could be the ideal redemptive storyline for season two. If it is renewed, the earliest we can expect the sitcom should be in the spring of 2023.
Who would return for season 2?
Jared Keeso, reprising his role as the chirp-voice, potty mouthed Shoresy, will most likely make his return to reprise his role if it is confirmed.
Other cast members who are believed to return to the sitcom would include Tasya Teles in the role of Nat, and Harlan Blayne Kytwayhat in the role of Sanguinet, as the two main supporting characters.
Other season one favourites that we would like to see return include the three Jims, and Ziigwan, Miigwan, Michael, Lauren, and Laurence Leboeuf as a herself.
