Spider-Man: Far From Home was released in 2019, and with that, the post-credit scenes had fans deciphering the future of Peter Parker and the MCU as a whole.
Overview
Spiderman: Far From Home is the second Spider-Man film that is fronted by English born actor, Tom Holland. After the film was released in July 2019, the fans were most interested in deciphering the post-credit scenes.
This is as the scenes gave clues to the upcoming instalment of the Spider-Man franchise and the continuation of Peter Parker’s adventures. Moreover, the mid and post credit scenes give clues to what is in store for the rest of MCU.
Mid-credit scene explained
The first post-credit scene, in marvel fashion, provided a few surprises. This is as it is revealed that J. Jonah Simmons of the Daily Bugle is set to make a return. The character was reprised by fan-favourite, J.K Simmons.
The last time the actor played the role was during the Sam Raimi 2002 directed Spiderman film, Spider-Man. During his scene, he implicates Spider-Man for the destruction of the London Bridge through a doctored video and reveals Spider-Man’s real identity as Peter Parker.
Was Mysterio working alone?
The second biggest of the reveals during the post credit scenes of Spiderman: Far From Home was the revelation that Mysterio was not working alone. The film depicted Mysterio as the villain of the film, as he was seeking to have all the benefits that Tony Stark left behind for Peter. However, Mysterio was not working alone in this endeavour.
This is revealed as some of his behind-the-scenes associates are seen fleeing as they realise that their initial plan has been foiled with the death of Mysterio.
Moreover, the fact that J. Jonah Jameson’s Daily Bugle could get a hold of the doctored video and reveal Spider-Man’s real identity, confirmed that Mysterio was not working alone and that there are more villains forging ahead with the plan to defeat Spider-Man. Moreover, the fact that their identities were not revealed affirms that the war is not over.
Post-credit scene explained
Another reveal which took place during the post-credit sequence was the real identity of Nick Fury and Maria Hill, played by Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders respectively, being revealed. During the post-credit scene, it’s revealed that Fury and Maria were being impersonated by the Skrulls. Talos shapeshifted to become Fury, and Soren shapeshifted in order to impersonate Maria.
The last time the Skrulls were seen within the MCU was during the Captain Marvel film, when Talos and the remaining Skrull refugees were looking for a new home.
Fury and the Skrulls’ collaboration
While it initially looked like the Skrulls were impersonating Nick Fury and Maria Hill, it is soon revealed that this was at the request of Nick Fury, who was enjoying a simulated beach holiday on one of the Skrulls’ spaceships. Moreover, when Talos called to speak to Fury, he stated, “Hope the mission is going well.”
The statement implies that Fury consciously entrusted the Skrulls with a mission, rather than that he was simply looking to take a vacation from his duties. However, to what end is never revealed, which suggests a segway to the third instalment of the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man franchise.
The revelation of the Kree’s existence
During one of the earlier scenes in the film, Talos as Fury reveals that the Kree are also on Earth. At the time of the reveal, the mentioning of the Kree seemed like a throwaway line or conversation. However, after it is revealed that Talos was impersonating Fury, the reference bears more significance.
This is because the Kree are the Skrulls mortal enemies, after defeating them and making them refugees in search of a new homeland. However, the extent of the reference and suggestion of imminent possible war is never revealed.
Conclusion
Spider-Man: Far From Home is the second film to be fronted by the current Spider-Man, Tom Holland. Moreover, it was the last film released under the Spider-Man franchise before the global pandemic changed the world of film production and release rollouts.
Therefore, the reveals of the mid and post-credit scenes still need explaining as to how they will shape or would have the upcoming films and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This includes the return of the Daily Bugle, the surprise reveal of the Skrulls and Fury’s cryptic message to the Skrulls.
