The Crown: Does Diana die in season 5?

Netflix and the creators of The Crown have confirmed that Diana will not die in season 5, but she will likely die in the sixth and final season.

Many people watch The Crown because it is such a popular show portraying the lives of the royal family and it is particularly popular among older people.

Since the most recent season of The Crown portrayed the events that took place between 1991 and 1997, many fans have wondered whether Diana’s death will be shown is season five, but Netflix has confirmed that it will not .

How popular is The Crown?

The Crown examines the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, and it was first released on 4 November 2016. Since this initial release, the show has become one of the most popular historical drama television programs ever released.

Over 1 million people tuned in to watch the release of the most recent, fifth season in the United Kingdom alone.

This series has also been a way for Netflix to reach a whole new demographic of fans, since about half of the viewers that regularly watch the show are over 50 years old.

The Crown: Does Diana die in season 5?

The fifth and most recent season of The Crown was anxiously anticipated before its release on 9 November 2022 because this season would focus on the lives of the royal family following 1991 and it is a period of history that many people are familiar with.

One of the central figures of The Crown in this season is Diana, Princess of Wales.

Princess Diana has been depicted in many films and television programs over the years but seeing as The Crown has been one of the most talked-about historic series based on the royal family, many fans are anxious about when the show will approach her tragic death and how they will go about portraying this event on the show.

Fortunately, some of these questions can already be answered. The Crown will not portray Diana’s death in season five, since although the series does run until 1997, which was the year that she died in real life, the events of the season will end short of her actual death.

This means that fans will have to wait until the sixth and final season to finally see how The Crown will go about showing Princess Diana’s death.

When will the show feature Princess Diana’s death?

In the final episode of season five of The Crown, titled “Decommissioned,”  Mohamed Al-Fayed sends the newly-divorced Diana an invitation to a vacation in St. Tropez.

If the show follows the events as they happened in real life, it will be on this vacation that Diana and Mohamed Al-Fayed’s son, Dodi Fayed, connect for the first time.

This will then be the introduction to the romantic relationship between Diana and Dodi, who were on a different vacation in Paris when they died in the tragic car accident in 1997.

This line of events, paired with the fact that the cast and crew of The Crown have been spotted filming scenes from this infamous Paris trip, is what has led people to believe that Diana’s death will feature in some capacity in the sixth season of the show.

How will The Crown handle this pivotal moment in history?

The writer of The Crown, Peter Morgan, has been charged with depicting the scenes of Diana’s death before in a film called The Queen in 2006.

It seems as though Netflix will be happy to take a similar approach to how Peter Morgan approached it in his previous film, since Netflix executives have confirmed that although they will cover Diana’s death, they will not explicitly show the car crash or her death on camera.

However, the scenes that are already being filmed include some iconic moments from events that happened just before this car accident.

This means that the moments leading up to Diana’s death will be shown explicitly and fans will be able to see as much of Elizabeth Debicki’s portrayal of the princess as they possibly can before the accident.

Why are fans anxious about how Diana’s death will be handled?

Diana’s death and the aftermath of her death were controversial subjects, even when they had just happened.

This is why fans fear that the show may take a strange angle when they depict these tragic events that may paint Diana in a bad light or just fuel the controversy surrounding her death.

Fortunately, up to this point, The Crown has been accurate and fair in its portrayal of most of the characters and events on the show, and this should also be the case in the show’s final season.
