The Misfit of Demon King Academy has been confirmed for a second season and will be a split cour season with a change in casting.
Overview
The Misfit of Demon King Academy first premiered in July 2020, and was an immediate hit with anime manga fans. The first season ended with a conclusive season finale, which suggested the end of the series for its fans.
However, for fans of the light novels and the manga comics, there was the knowledge that the first season encapsulated only the first three volumes of the light novels.
Therefore, it was no surprise when the anime manga series was confirmed for a second season in March 2021, and most recently the release of the trailer.
What is The Misfit of Demon King Academy?
The Misfit of Demon King Academy first premiered as an anime manga series in July 2020, and ran until September 2020.
The anime manga series is based on the series of light novels by Japanese author Shu, and the illustrations were drawn by Yoshinori Shizuma. The series was produced by Silver Link, while the USA licensor of the series is Aniplex of America.
The premise of the series is, “A demon mage reincarnates into the body of his descendant hoping to find an era where he can have some peace and quiet. He ends up going to a school run by his significantly weaker descendants.”
The Misfit of Demon King Academy season 2 confirmed
Season two of The Misfit of Demon King Academy was confirmed in March 2021 during the Kadokawa Light Novel Expo 2020.
Initially, the expo was meant to take place in October 2020, but was subsequently pushed back to March 2021, possibly due to the pandemic.
However, Aniplex affirmed the confirmation in March 2022, when the licensor of the anime manga series released the trailer teasing details about the second season.
The trailer in question confirmed many of the already speculated details of the series, such as the change in casting and the direction the series will take in the new season.
The only details the trailer did not shed any light on was the plot and the release date for the much-anticipated second season.
The mystery of the former, specifically the plot for season two, is already teased by the existing volumes of the light novels which inspired the anime manga series.
Aniplex confirms changing in cast of lead character
In December 2021, news that Tatsuhisa Suzuki would no longer be the voice of the title character, Anos Voldigoad, was shared.
The departure of Suzuki as the voice of Anos was allegedly linked to the allegations of infidelity and an attempted suicide which Suzuki and his wife, Lisa, faced in 2021.
As a result, the couple has, apparently, suspended all their entertainment activities to focus on rebuilding their family.
In light of Suzuki’s departure, he is set to be replaced by fellow Japanese speaking actor Yūichirō Umehara, who will be the new voice of Anos in season two.
The Misfit of Demon King Academy season two set to be a split cour
One of the confirmations of the trailer’s release was the fact that season two of The Misfit of Demon King Academy is set to be a split cour.
For those that are not familiar with the term, a “cour” is essentially a season, and a split cour indicates that the second season will be split into two, with a mid-season break in between.
It is suggested that the reason for the split cour is to allow for the series’ airing to coincide with its scheduled release dates in Japan.
Therefore, the season is set to split into two seasons, however, the number of episodes per split cour have not been shared as of yet.
Still no release date for The Misfit of Demon King Academy season two
Following the confirmation of the second season in March 2021, neither Aniplex nor Silver Link have shared when fans can expect the release of the second season.
However, in light of the date when the announcement was made, it did allude to a 2022 release date for season two.
This was further corroborated by the release of the most recent teaser in March 2022, marking a year since the confirmation was made at the Kadokawa Light Novel Expo 2020. The only thing that is yet to be shared is the definite release date
Final thoughts
The Misfit of Demon King Academy ended with Anos and Kanon finally defeating Jerga, which suggested a conclusive ending of the series. However, it is speculated that the new season will see Anos named the Demon Lord again, having to face off with a new enemy.
This is because the first season only covered the first three novels of the series, but there are six other volumes. Therefore, while the second season is confirmed and is believed to be set for release in 2022, fans will need to wait for the release to discover whether the plot is true or not.
