The Underground Railroad is set to premiere on Friday, 14 May 2021, on Amazon Prime. The long-awaited series by Academy Award winner, Barry Jenkins, is based on the multi-award-winning novel of the same name by Colson Whitehead. According to the streaming platform, the series will centre around Cora Randall’s desperate attempt for freedom in the antebellum South. As she makes her way out of the Georgia plantation, she discovers that rumours about an underground railroad were not fictional, as there is actually a railroad based beneath the Southern Soil.
The Underground Railroad is led by South African actress, Thuso Mbedu, and also stars Chase W. Dillon, Aaron Pierre and Joel Edgerton. The series will include 10 episodes, which will be released at once for continuous streaming on Amazon Prime.
