What gender is Mort?

Some viewers were confused about Mort’s gender after the first Madagascar movie, however, he is undoubtably a male.

Madagascar is a popular American computer-animated comedy film produced by DreamWorks Animations. The story sees the zoo animals, Marty the Zebra, Alex the Lion, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippopotamus, going on an adventure. It was a great success as it led to the release of Madagascar 2 and Madagascar 3. Additionally, it spawned multiple television series, short films and video games.

In the first film, the animals soon found themselves on Madagascar, where they came across a pack of lemurs led by King Julien XIII.  The lemurs were being hunted by the predatory fossa, luckily, it was scared off by Alex’s fearsome appearance. Subsequently, King Julien had the lemurs befriend the zoo animals in the hope that Alex’s presence would keep the fossa at bay.

The movies feature multiple lemurs, one of which is Mortdecai, more commonly known as Mort. Even though he plays a side character in the Madagascar movies, he is a main character in All Hail King Julien. Mort is an incredibly cute and somewhat innocent mouse lemur, but his age is not confirmed. Mort adores King Julien’s feet, an obsession which started when he saw King Julien using his feet to kick a fossa in the first episode of All Hail King Julien.

It is important to note that Mort is undoubtably a male. He has two enormous yellow eyes and a big brown head. Mort is generally considered cute and innocent looking, even though he is over 50 years old. His exact age remains unclear.

Even though Mort loves King Julien, the feeling is not mutual. King Julien exhibits a heavy disliking for Mort, and he constantly pushes Mort around. It is believed that King Julien finds Mort highly annoying. However, Mort’s cute looks landed him on the cover of the zoo brochure in The Penguin Stays in The Picture.
