The second season of Cruel Summer is set in the entirely new and fictional town of Chatham.
Cruel Summer’s second season has introduced a whole new mystery for fans to obsess over, but it is also set in an entirely new, fictional town.
The second season of the series takes place in a fictional northwestern town, which is located near Washington and unfolds over the course of one year.
Where does Cruel Summer take place?
If you unsuspectingly tuned in to watch the second season of Cruel Summer, only to be caught off guard when the show suddenly got an entirely new cast, new mystery and was set in a different time period, you are not alone.
The second season of the show takes on a completely new narrative, which investigates a love-triangle, turned murder investigation.
It is focused on three high school students named Megan Landry (played by Sadie Stanley), Isabella LaRue (played by Lexi Underwood), and Luke Chambers (Griffin Gluck).
This time around, most of the narrative plays out in a fictional coastal town in the Pacific Northwest called Chatham, which is part of Washington.
Where was season 2 of Cruel Summer filmed?
Since you will not actually be able to visit the fictional town of Chatham in which season two takes place, you may be wondering where you can see some of the beautiful northwestern scenery which forms the backdrop of the show.
The second season of Cruel Summer was actually shot in a few different locations, ranging from Vancouver in Canada, and Richmond, all the way to British Columbia, between May and June of 2022.
Be sure to also look out for landmarks like the Sunset Marina, the Sea To Sky Highway and even the Clova Theater, while you watch.
When does season 2 of Cruel Summer take place?
The second season of Cruel Summer is set a few years after the events of the first season. It features all of the Y2K décor, accessories, fashion and references that you could dream of.
The story also develops slightly faster than the first season’s (which was spread out over three years) This is because it only captures the summer of 1999, the winter of 1999, and the summer 2000.
What about the show’s first season?
The first season of Cruel Summer, much like the first, takes place in a fictional town called Skylin. It is, however, noteworthy that the fictional town from the first season is in Texas (not Washington, like in the second season.)
In this case, the sprawling landscapes that can be seen in the first ten episodes of the show, were actually filmed in Texas in real life, too.
