MasterChef Australia’s Ben Ungermann abruptly left season 12 of the cooking show due to personal matters, which were later revealed as sexual assault allegations.
MasterChef Australia’s season 12 contestant, Ben Ungermann, suddenly left the competition midway through the season, claiming that he had to urgently return home due to “personal reasons.” The latest season of MasterChef, which aired in early 2020, saw viewers confused by Ben’s sudden departure, as neither he nor the production explicitly revealed why he was forced to forfeit the competition.
Judge, Jock Zonfrillo, addressed the issue during an episode in season 12, explaining to the contestants, “You’re probably wondering where Ben is. Due to a personal matter, Ben has had to leave the competition and he will not be returning.”
According to Australian media, Ben is facing two counts of sexual assault claims, allegedly committed against a 16-year-old girl during a trip to Melbourne in February. The chef is currently under investigation, with the court yet to reveal the outcome of his case.
