Why did Cody leave The Bachelorette?

Season 17 of The Bachelorette kicked off with a fight between Aaron and Cody, as it was revealed that Cody was only on the show to gain popularity.

Katie Thurston is hoping to find love as the lead of the new season of The Bachelorette. Thurston was previously a contestant on season 25 of The Bachelor, but she went home without a rose after an emotional conversation with Matt James.

Season 17 of The Bachelorette premiered on Monday, 7 June 2021, and has already had its first dispute. Contestants, Aaron Clancy and Cody Menk’s drama began with a small confrontation in the first episode, with Aaron stating, “I do not like you, bro. Like, I have never liked you,” he added, “And that’s fine. We do not have to talk at all and it is not my fault that I don’t like you.” The two reportedly have mutual friends and met each other prior to being on the show, as they both live in San Diego.

The drama soon turned into a conflict during the second group date, which was a cowboy-themed, shirtless, mud-wrestling contest, with the winner getting a private moment with Thurston. Aaron and Cody were opponents in the ring, tearing at each other. Their violent tossing clearly showed that it was more about their own dislike for each other and not necessarily an attempt to impress Thurston.

Aaron subsequently won and was announced as the best fighter, which granted him one-on-one time with Thurston. Katie was not hesitant as she asked him what was going on between him and Cody. Aaron claimed that Cody was not on the show for the right reasons. He further explained that he believes that Cody only entered the show because he is seeking fame. Shortly thereafter, Thurston pulled Cody to the side to hear his side of the story. Although he claimed that he was there for the right reasons, Katie did not believe him.

Later that evening, Katie admitted in the diary entries of the show that she decided to send Cody home because she could not trust him. She also explained to the rest of the contestants that Cody’s intentions were not authentic, as he was not there for her, but rather, so that he could gain more followers on social media. The episode ended with Katie telling the contestants, “If you are not here for me, if you are not here for an engagement, then get the f*ck out.” Adding, “I am not here to waste my time.”
