Why did Gina Carano get fired?

Gina Carano was fired from Disney in 2021, after she repeatedly shared her controversial views on mask-wearing, voter fraud, and comments that were deemed transphobic.

Gina Carano was fired from The Mandalorian, a movie produced by Lucasfilm and Disney, in February 2021, after she sparked controversy with a series of insensitive statements on her Instagram Stories. Given the strict guidelines put in place by Disney and the image expected to be upheld by its representatives, Gina’s comments were deemed inappropriate and not in line with the network’s ethos.

The actress chose to weigh in on American politics on her personal social media pages, however, the views expressed appeared to offend a large group of people. One of the posts compared America’s political divide to Nazi Germany, whilst another post was a picture of people in cloth masks with the caption, “Meanwhile in California.”

Gina’s remarks insinuated that she strongly supported former American president, Donald Trump, and the transphobic remarks he previously expressed. This led to some believing that she shares the same values and beliefs as him. She also condemned mask-wearing and alluded to the fact that the coronavirus pandemic may be a hoax.

Disney and Lucasfilm took it upon themselves to release Gina from her role as Cara Dune on The Mandalorian. In a statement in February 2021, a Lucasfilm spokesperson was quoted as saying, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
