Madeleine Mantock (Macy Vaughn) left Charmed to pursue other creative ventures, similarly to the original Charmed’s Shannen Doherty.
In 2018, Charmed, the CW revival series, returned with a new cast of “The Charmed Sisters.”
This change remained consistent with the departure of the oldest sister when Macy died in season three, after the actress made the decision to leave the show.
Charmed’s coincidental season 3 departures
Ironically, both Charmed series experienced major, surprising exits of the eldest charmed sister after three seasons.
First it was Shannen Doherty, in the role of Prue Halliwell, who left the series after the third season finale and was subsequently killed off before season four. Similarly, Madeleine Mantock confirmed her exit from the series prior to the season three finale.
Why did Macy Vaughn leave Charmed?
Madeleine Mantock’s departure as the character of Macy Vaughn on Charmed was announced a few days before the season three finale of the series in July 2021.
In the story, Macy dies after she ingests poison which was supposed to kill the Whispering Evil that attempted to take over her body.
The last we see of her is when her sisters, Mel and Maggie, bid her farewell as she joins the rest of the past Charmed Ones at the tree in the Command Centre.
Mantock’s exit was seemingly amicable, as she shared official word confirming the news of her departure by stating, “Playing Macy on Charmed for the last three seasons has been an immense privilege and I have so enjoyed working with our fantastic producers, creatives, cast and crew.”
She went on to add, “I’m incredibly grateful to The CW and CBS Studios for my time on the show and for being a brilliant support in my difficult decision to leave. Huge thanks to our fans who can look forward to, what I know will be, a spectacular fourth season.”

Who replaced Madeleine Mantock?
In season four, Charmed introduced Michaela, the new Charmed One, who got her powers from a bone marrow transplant from Macy when she was younger.
Will Macy ever return to Charmed?
While she did not return for season four, the producers did tease a possible return with the statement, “We wish her well, and the door is always open for a return visit from Macy…one way or another!”
