VIXX’s N did not leave the group, however, he did not renew his contract with Jellyfish Entertainment, but still carries out his duties as leader of the group.
In November 2021, it was announced that leader of six-member K-pop group, VIXX’s N, whose real name is Cha Hakyeon, decided not to renew his contract with entertainment company, JellyFish Entertainment. The announcement of N’s future with the group was delayed. This was due to the fact that in March 2019, N was enlisted to be a part of the military band. Therefore, when other members of the group were negotiating their contracts in May 2020, he would only renegotiate his own contract in October 2020.
N had been the leader of the band since 2012, which was popularly known as a formation of a six all-male group. Jellyfish Entertainment shared a statement, which began by stating, “Hello, this is Jellyfish Entertainment. First, we would like to sincerely thank all fans who love and cheer for our artist VIXX.” Going on to state:
“As of October 31, our contract with VIXX member N has come to an end. After a lengthy discussion with N, we have decided to respect his wishes to not renew his contract, coming to a settlement. However, having been a member of VIXX for the past 8 years, N will continue his music activities with VIXX and will protect the group’s name. We would like to thank N for working with us for such a long time with mutual faith and trust, and we also cheer on N’s future path sincerely. We would appreciate it if you watch over N’s new beginning with love and support.”
While N did not renew his contract, he struck a deal similar to fellow band member, Ravi, who would still be part of the group. However, his contract with Jellyfish was not renewed in light of him starting his own agency. Members, Leo, Ken and Hyuk, all opted to renew their contracts, with the only member to formally leave the group being Hongbin, who opted not to renew his contract and announced his departure.
