Why did Nick Jonas leave The Voice?

Nick Jonas appeared on season 17 of NBC’s The Voice but did not return for season 18, making him the only judge to feature on only one season of the talent competition.

Nick Jonas’ absence from the season 18 judging panel of NBC’s The Voice came as a shock to many of his fans, as well as loyal viewers of the show. According to many viewers of The Voice, the Jonas brother added a younger dynamic to the panel and his years of experience in the industry was welcomed by his group. When it was announced in June 2020 that Nick would not be returning, fans appealed to the channel to reconsider and include him in the new season.

Season 18, which premiered in October 2020, saw Gwen Stefani returning after her Las Vegas residency, alongside her fiancé, Black Shelton, and award-winning singers, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend. Neither the production nor Nick have released a formal statement regarding his absence, however, it is assumed that the original plan was for him to fill in for Gwen whilst she was performing.
