WandaVision’s decision to recast the role of Pietro from the Marvel to the Disney version came as a shock to fans who were not expecting the change.
WandaVision’s showrunner, Jac Schaeffer, made the executive decision to recast the role of Pietro, which was originally assumed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, from the Marvel to the Disney version, with Evan Peters subsequently assuming the role. The change occurred in the fifth episode, where viewers saw that the character had been resurrected from the dead and was also recast and portrayed in cinematically different versions.
Pietro, who doubles as the superhero Quicksilver, originally appeared as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) version, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, at the beginning of the series. At the end of episode five, Pietro was back, however, he was now the Disney-owned X-Men version of Pietro, played by Evan Peters.
In an article posted on Marvel.com on Tuesday, 9 February 2021, Jac spoke about conceptualising the storyline of resurrecting Quicksilver and how they were unsure how that could play out justifiably. He stated, “We were like, ‘How in the world are we going to make this make logical sense? Like, how do we justify this?’ Because that’s the thing, you can hatch a million great ideas, but to make them land, to make them be grounded, to make them feel organic to the larger story.”
