Behind Reality TV

Why does Drew Pritchard never drive?

Does Drew Pritchard still have a warehouse?

Drew Pritchard not driving on Salvage Hunters has been put into question, with many speculating that he does not drive due to an alleged DUI conviction.

Salvage Hunters is one of the most popular shows on British television, which explains why it got a spinoff after seven years on air. The spinoff, which is titled Salvage Hunters: The Restorers, still featured Drew as the anchor of the show.

In both the shows, Drew is tasked with finding antiques across the United Kingdom (UK), which can be restored or upscaled to be sold again.

Throughout his trips, Drew is always driven. This is never explained, which has led to speculation and conspiracies as to why- none which have been proven.

What is Salvage Hunters about?

Salvage Hunters premiered in 2011 and is still ongoing with 14 seasons to date.

The premise of the show is described as, “Meet modern-day treasure hunter Drew Pritchard. With demanding customers, high turnover, and one of the biggest decorative salvage yards in the UK, Drew is constantly on the road, crisscrossing the country in search of derelict gems and forgotten remnants,” according to Cineflix.

While Drew might be constantly on the road, he is always driven by someone else, who becomes a guest or recurring guest throughout the duration of the season.

Why does Drew Pritchard never drive?

In all the 14 seasons of Salvage Hunters, Drew has not once driven himself in any of the episodes. As the trend became apparent, it was only natural that the question would arise as to why the show’s frontman is never in front of the steering wheel.

However, neither the show nor Drew have publicly addressed the matter. As a result, it has left room for speculation as to the reason why this is.

The biggest reason attributed to this is an alleged drinking-under-the-influence (DUI) charge and conviction that Drew has.

It is alleged that Drew had a bender one night at a local pub, which not only resulted in him being banned by the pub, but it is believed that he was banned from most pubs in Conwy.

This marks another story involving Drew and a pub, as he also got into a physical altercation in a pub, which involved the husband of the woman he was romantically linked with.

Who is Drew Pritchard’s most memorable driving companion?

Arguably one of the most memorable driving companions that Drew Pritchard has had throughout the history of Salvage Hunters is John Tee.

Tee made his debut appearance on the show in 2013 as a guest appearance. He would appear in 11 episodes between 2013 and 2016, when he made his last appearance.

Tee and Drew shared onscreen chemistry, which was due to their offscreen friendship, as Tee was described as Drew’s best friend.

Fans were glued to the screen as they watched the two banter and watched as Drew found the antiques and Tee carried them to the back of their truck.

What happened to John Tee on Salvage Hunters?

Following the end of the eighth season of the show, John Tee did not return. No reason for this was given.

As a result, one of the speculated reasons for John Tee’s non-return was attributed to the agreement he might have had with the show to only be a guest appearance for the one season.

However, considering the popularity of the duo, it would not make sense to renegotiate to bring him back. Moreover, John Tee reportedly had issues with his thyroid, which resulted in him losing weight.

Will John Tee return to Salvage Hunters?

Following John Tee’s non-return to the show, fans have called for his return multiple times.

However, considering the fact that it has been over four years since his last appearance, together with the state of his health, it seems less likely that John Tee would ever return to be Drew’s best bud and driving companion.

Final thoughts

Salvage Hunters is premised on host Drew Pritchard travelling across the UK in search of antique and vintage artefacts, which they restore to sell to new owners or at the request of the original owner.

However, Drew never drives himself when driving all over the UK, which is quite ironic, given the title of his book, Man with a Van: My Story.

A reason for Drew’s lack of driving on the show has never been shared either by the show or by Drew himself.

The most popular of the speculated reasons for this is alleged to be that Drew has a DUI conviction that prohibits him from being in front of the steering wheel.
