Why Hoyt died in season finale of Walker

The death of his best friend is seen as a game changer for Cordell Walker, as the finale of Walker showcased Hoyt being murdered by Clint West.

Walker is an American action crime television series, and is a reboot of the 1993 television series Walker, Texas Ranger. It premiered on 21 January 2021, and just after a month of positive reviews, the series was renewed for a second season, which is expected to premiere on 28 October 2021.

Hoyt Rawlins, played by Matt Barr, is a guest character in the reboot crime drama series. He is described as Hill Country’s Han Solo and a Lonestar Lothario. Hoyt grew up in a rough family full of criminals and derelicts. He never knew his mother, but grew close to his childhood friend, Cordell Walker, played by Jared Padalecki. Hoyt often found himself on the wrong side of the law, but he has a soft spot for his on-and-off love interest, Geri Broussard, played by Odette Anabelle, and his best friend, Walker.

In episode 13, Walker and his long-time nemesis, Clint West, played by Austin Nichols, finally have a shoot off, but a few of Walker’s loved ones get caught up in the action. Just when the viewers think that Walker and his family are out of harm’s way, Clint fatally stabs Hoyt, who dies surrounded by loved ones.

Cordell Walker already had to deal with the death of his wife, and now had to deal with the death of his best friend. This led fans to believe that Walker will change even more and, according to Jared, change for the better. Showrunners of the reboot have yet to reveal the reason why Matt left Walker. The silence has led fans to assume that his exit was a part of the storyline all along.
