10th season of ITV’s Doc Martin is currently airing in the UK and it is set to arrive in the US later in the month of October 2022.
Doc Martin has been a flagship series for ITV since it premiered back in 2004 and is one of the longest-running series on the channel.
The show is premised on Martin Clunes as Doctor Martin Ellingham, a London doctor with a unique bedside manner who moves to the picturesque village Portwenn, Cornwall.
The series has already kicked off its tenth and final season in the UK as it is currently airing episodes from the series finale.
However, there is a delay in the arrival of the series’ final season in the US as it will arrive later in the month of October 2022 on the English paid subscription video-on-demand platform, Acorn TV.
Martin Clunes on Doc Martin’s final season
Martin Clunes played the character of neurotic doctor Martin Ellingham for over two decades.
Therefore, between himself, Caroline Catz who plays his wife Louisa Glasson, and Ian McNeice who played Bert Large, they are the only characters that have been in every episode of the series since it premiered in 2004, totalling 75 episodes to date.
As such, it was touching when Clunes spoke about his feeling about the comical series coming to an end as he shared, “I shall miss Cornwall, and all the lovely people we have worked with. But it is the right time to say farewell to the Doc, and Portwenn.”
Will there be a 10th season of Doc Martin?
Not only is there going to be a tenth season of Doc Martin, but in actuality, the final season of the English medical sitcom is currently already enjoying its premiere television run in the UK on ITV.
Season 10 of the sitcom premiered on the channel on Wednesday, 7 September 2022 and the eight-episode season is set to end its natural television run on Wednesday, 26 October 2022.
In the US, luckily, fans of the sitcom do not need to wait until Doc Martin has concluded its natural television run until it is available to watch. The medical sitcom has been confirmed for arrival on Acorn TV on Monday, 17 October 2022.
Thereafter, fans will be able to see whether the doctor eventually returned to his practice after initially resigning in the previous season or not.
But as the season is already airing in the UK, it is safe to confirm that the doctor returns to his practice. But it is not easy, as he is attempting to get over his fear of blood, and he has a new partner that he needs to share his practice space with.
The season is still jam-packed with comical moments as Doc Martin and his wife, Louisa, navigate parenting. Specifically, they figure out how to parent to avoid their daughter turning out with the peculiarities as those of her father.

Will there be a Doc Martin Christmas special?
As the tenth season of Doc Martin is set to make the last return to Portwenn for the cast, crew, and fans of the series, it seems that ITV is rolling out the red carpet for a proper send-off season.
This is as it has confirmed that the last Doc Martin episode will be a Christmas special episode. As such, the episode will air sometime in December 2022 during the festive season.
However, the release date for the special episode has not been shared yet, for both the UK ITV viewing audience and those who stream the series.
Will there be a Doc Martin special?
Before the availability of the Doc Martin Christmas special, ITV has planned a documentary special in celebration of the milestone 10 seasons of its hit show which was a ratings-puller during its run.
Details of the documentary have been few, including the cast of the documentary or the release date, which are yet to be confirmed.
But it is safe to assume that the documentary will be a retrospective of the experiences of the cast and crew that have worked on the sitcom and how it has affected their lives.
Why is Doc Martin ending after season 10?
Considering that Doc Martin has been part of ITV’s scheduled programming for over 18 years, and that the medical sitcom series has remained a ratings puller in the 10 seasons that it has been running, it came as a surprise when it was announced that the series is ending.
The demise of the series has been attributed to the story running its course. This is based on sentiments by Martin Clunes who, in an interview with RadioTimes, stated, “I think everyone will probably appreciate it is time to finish Doc Martin. But it feels like a really good time to finish.”
