Bertram Winkle appeared on a single episode of Bunk’d titled “Griff in the House”, which was his last appearance on Jessie related shows.
The Disney channel has a number of memorable shows for their own various reasons. Bunk’d is a spin-off of the successful Jessie show which premiered in 2011 and ended its four-season run in 2015.
While the main cast of Jessie, except for the title character, Jessie, played by Debby Ryan, was part of Bunk’d, one of the memorable cameos was in season two when Kevin Chamberlin played the role of Bertram Winkle and made his only physical appearance on the show, exhibiting the same behaviour that he showed during Jessie.
Bertram Winkle’s cameo on Bunk’d was a ratings winner
Bunk’d returned for its second season in August 2016 with the first episode which featured the only cameo physical appearance by Kevin Chamberlin as the character of Bertram Winkle.
The episode proved to be such a fan-favourite that it is the most highly-rated episode of the season with its total rating score being 8.7 out of 10 on IMDb.
The episodes which were most closely rated to the first episode in that season were episodes seven titled “Camp Kiki-slasher” and “We Didn’t Start The Fire”, which earned a total of 8.5 out of 10 in viewer’s rating scores on IMDb.
Bunk’d: Bertram
Bunk’d was the spin-off of Jessie. Therefore, the focus of the spin-off changed from the lives of the Ross kids and their relationship with Jessie, to their lives when they returned to camp.
As such, the supporting cast of the series changed from the parents and the house staff, to the Ross kids and their relationship with the various members that attended the camp.
However, every now and then, beloved cast members from Jessie made an appearance on Bunk’d. Bertram Winkle would make a brief but seemingly impactful cameo in the season two premiere in the episode titled “Griff Is in the House.”
His appearance featured Bertram as Emma, Ravi, and Zuri were preparing to go to camp. Bertram, who was supposed to be helping the children get ready, was doing everything but that.
Instead, he was throwing Emma’s suitcase down the stairs and getting Ravi to carry Zuri’s bags after he already collected a tip from Zuri.
The result is the comical conclusion as Bertram begins his celebrations of freedom owing to the empty house. However, this was short lived as the kids walked in on him after they forgot something.
Bertram was bashful and ashamed of being caught out. The children were disappointed as they thought that he would miss them. But upon seeing Bertram’s jubilation, Zuri reclaimed her tip from him and expressed her disappointment.
Bertram’s consistent personality in Bunk’d and in Jessie
When he was introduced on Jessie, Bertram was fashioned as the lazy and grouchy butler, who seemingly only worked when the parents were present.
However, when they were not there, he was lazy and passed off the responsibility of working as much as he possibly could.
His cameo appearance on Bunk’d remained consistent with his already established characterisation, especially in terms of his interactions with and treatment of the Ross kids. But for his favourites, Ravi and Emma, he found a safer way to avoid doing the manual labour.
Did Bertram appear again on Bunk’d?
Kevin Chamberlin never made another cameo appearance on Bunk’d in the role of Bertram Winkle.
Interestingly, his cameo in the season two premiere marked his last appearance on any of the Jessie universe shows or Disney shows, as another earlier appearance of his was in 2014 during the crossover special Jessie, Liv and Maddie’s Hawaiian Christmas Cross-A-Rooney.
However, Bertram was mentioned in another Bunk’d episode. Specifically, in season two, episode 20 titled “We Didn’t Start The Fire.” This title was inspired by American music legend Billy Joel’s hit song of the same name.
Did Bertram have a love interest on Bunk’d?
While Bertram Winkle did not have a love interest on Bunk’d, which is not surprising considering that he only appeared in one episode of the show, it is believed that his crush on Salma Espinosa was still very much present during his cameo.
Salma Espinosa was played by the beloved actress, Stephanie Beatriz. Salma, who is a cook that has an apartment in the same building as Ross, was Bertram’s crush and the kids attempted to bring the two together.
However, they were incompatible as Salma loved salsa, but Bertram was petrified of dancing due to the teasing he experienced when he was a child.
