Chucky: Why did Good Chucky kill Nadine?

Good Chucky killed Nadine because the brainwashing that turned him good was only temporary and his possessed side took over.

The new Chucky series is a fresh take on the classic well-known story and combines horror with humour.

Following this trend, the sixth episode of the second season featured many shocking moments, including the moment where Good Chucky’s brainwashing wore off. This caused his bad, possessed side to win,  and this is why he killed Nadine.

Is the Chucky television series any good?

The new Chucky television series has managed to breathe new life into the franchise. Chucky is now near the end of its second season, and so far, most of the reviews for the series have been positive.

Fans of the Chucky franchise appreciate that the series has brought a new kind of glum sense of humour to the story but has retained the classic horror tropes throughout.

Another stand-out element in the series has been the return of Brad Dourif, who was the original 1988 voice of Chucky and who has once again impressed audiences with his approach in this new show.

For the most part, Chucky manages to combine the classic horror elements that fans of the franchise expect, with sweet, heartfelt moments that introduce the series into the modern age.

Chucky: Why did Good Chucky kill Nadine?

In the second season of Chucky, which started airing on 5 October 2022, the Incarnate Lord School is established as the centre of Chucky’s horrible plotting and scheming.

The sixth episode of this second season, titled “He Is Risen Indeed”, featured many shocking moments throughout.

Firstly, it revealed the truth behind Andy’s survival and how he was abused after this miraculous survival. Then it is revealed that Dr. Mixter was Charles Lee Ray’s childhood therapist.

But possibly the most shocking moment happened right at the end of this episode, when the not-so-aptly named Good Chucky takes Nadine in for a hug after fleeing to the tower, but then suddenly turns and throws her out of the window at the last moment.

After Good Chucky’s amateur baptism in the previous episode, Nadine is now his godmother and the two clearly share a close bond.

However, in classic Chucky fashion, all of this is turned on its head in an instant, when Good Chucky’s evil side, the side that is possessed by Charles Lee Ray, wins over his innocent, sweeter side and he kills Nadine via defenestration.

Good Chucky had been exhibiting signs that his change for good was just temporary, and this murder solidified his transition back to his evil side for good.

To add salt to the wound of Lexy and the rest of the group who saw Nadine fall from the building and onto the Virgin Mary statue, dying on impact, Good Chucky added that this way of killing has always been his “favourite M.O.”

How is Good Chucky different from the other dolls?

The concept that there are multiple different Chucky dolls within the same timeline is not new to the Chucky franchise, but this sixth episode of the second season is really one of the first times that viewers of the show have seen multiple Chucky dolls at once in the show.

The so-called Good Chucky doll is a Chucky doll on which the group used psychotherapy in an earlier episode to try and brainwash the evil Charles Lee Ray-spirit out of it.

Against all odd, this brainwashing works initially, and Good Chucky is even disturbed by acts of violence or death.

Which signs indicated that Good Chucky’s change was just temporary?

Although the brainwashing worked at first to make Good Chucky nauseous at the sight of violence or death, at the beginning of this episode, there are various signs that the effects of the psychotherapy are starting to wear off and that his evil side is winning.

The first sign is when Good Chucky kills a fly without vomiting at the sight of its death, and then later when Good Chucky starts to believe that he is a murderer, and this is why he initially flees to the roof before Nadine can chase after him.

Why does Good Chucky say that defenestration has always been his favourite M.O.?

Fans of the Chucky franchise were obviously shocked when Nadine died, as she was such a sweet and genuine character on the show.

But this reference to Chucky’s murder of Maggie Peterson in the first Child’s Play movie added another layer of nuance to the show, which fans appreciated.

Chucky also killed Bree Wheeler by pushing her out of a high window with a mail cart in the show’s first season.
