Here’s who can still get HBO Max free with AT&T

AT&T users who used to get HBO Max for free will still be able to access the new Max streaming platform, unless they switch plans.

The  Warner Bros. Discovery umbrella has undergone many changes since the merger started, including HBO Max’s change to Max.

AT&T customers who had free access to HBO Max will not have to fret, however, since these accounts should have been switched over to the new Max platform automatically.

The changes at HBO’s streaming service

If you have been struggling to keep up with all of the changes under the new Warner Bros. Discovery merger, you are certainly not alone. As it stands, Warner Bros. Discovery has decided to keep both of the streaming services that fall under the brand.

The Discovery+ streaming service will remain its own standalone service and it will continue to operate relatively unchanged for the foreseeable future. The old HBO Max streaming service, on the other hand, has undergone some significant changes.

This includes a name change to “Max”, and a brand new library of content, which Warner Bros. Discovery has promised to add piece-by-piece monthly, and some new tiers and pricing structures which have already taken effect.

Here’s who can still get HBO Max free with AT&T

Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that the changes to the former HBO Max streaming service (now “Max”), will be rolled out globally, slowly over the course of the remainder of 2023 and 2024.

This follows the automatic conversion which took place for most users in the United States on May 23, 2023.

However, there is still so much about this new merger that remains unclear.

Thus, many users have been wondering whether the special promotional deals, which allowed a select few users to access the old HBO Max streaming service for free through other platforms, will still be active now that the platform has changed to Max. And, as always, the answer to this question is complicated.

If you were already on an AT&T plan which included access to HBO Max prior to the May 23 changes, your account should have switched over to a new Max account automatically, and you will still have free access until at least the end of November 2023.

This was confirmed by the Warner Bros. Discovery spokesperson, Chris Willard, who did not give any indication as to what would happen after this first six-month period after the switch to Max.

Will you still get Max for free if you change your AT&T plan?

AT&T discontinued its HBO Max bundle plans when it sold HBO to the now-merged Warner Bros. Discovery. This means that new AT&T customers can no longer get the plans which include free access to the Max streaming service.

But it also means that old AT&T users who want to change their current plans will no longer be able to subscribe to a plan which includes a free Max subscription.

And therefore, changing your AT&T plan now will mean that you lose your free access to the Max streaming service.

Which AT&T wireless and fiber plans include free access to Max?

The old AT&T wireless plans which included free access to HBO Max (now just “Max”) include:

• AT&T Unlimited Choice

• AT&T Unlimited Choice Enhanced
• AT&T Unlimited & More Premium

AT&T Fiber customers who purchased internet on the following speed tiers, within these specific date ranges, will also qualify for a free Max subscription, as shown below:

If you are on one of the above plans, you should still have access to the Max platform at no additional cost, until further notice.

The new Max tiers, pricing and benefits

If you missed the cut-off date and you are not currently on an AT&T plan which gives you free access to Max, you will still be able to enjoy content from a range of channels like Food Network, HGTV, TLC and ID if you sign up for a paid subscription to the Max streaming service.
