How did Chesapeake Shores end?

The end of Chesapeake Shores saw all the leading characters get a happy ending including a wedding, a baby, an engagement, and a pregnancy announcement.

Chesapeake Shores is the hit family drama series that first premiered on the Hallmark Channel in 2016. After five seasons, it was confirmed that the sixth season would mark the end of the series which aired between August 2022 and October 2022.

The family drama followed the lives and loves of four generations of the O’Brien family following the eldest daughter, Megan, returning home after a divorce with two kids.

The fact that Hallmark did not end the series abruptly allowed the main cast to get their happy endings including a wedding, a baby, an engagement, and a pregnancy announcement.

Why did Chesapeake Shores end?

The Hallmark channel has faced a lot of backlash for its continued trend of cancelling shows and not providing a reason or a farewell season to conclude the story properly.

But Chesapeake Shores, the series had its sixth and final conclusive season before drawing the curtains on the popular family drama.

The official word on the reason for the end of the show was tweeted in part as, “…a show that has captured imaginations and was reaching a natural conclusion, and we decided to wrap up the show on a high note in the sixth and final season”.

How did Chesapeake end?

The Hallmark channel touts itself as “the heart of TV”. As such, since Chesapeake Shores was given the sixth season as a swan season so that the series could have a conclusive ending, it is no surprise that the main cast of the O’Brien family received a happy ending.

From the beginning of the episode, it promised to be a wholesome and tear-jerking hour-long ride. The episode started with the birth of Kevin and Sarah’s little baby boy, who they named Mick.

However, this is only the beginning of the happy times in the episode as after the birth of baby Mick, the family immediately focused on the second between Megan and Mick.

The wedding is small and intimate, and it is hosted at Jess’s B&B. Not usually superstitious, especially considering that this was her second marriage to Mick, when Megan received a hairclip that was sent to her by Nell as her “something new”.

It sparked Megan’s interest in completing the wedding superstition by finding something blue, something borrowed and something old.

Finding something blue was easy as she borrowed a sapphire ring from Bree, which also covered the “something borrowed”.

The something old was more difficult, but when Mick gave her her old ring back as the something old, this gesture was touching to Megan and to viewers as it asserted that Mick always knew that Megan was the true love of his life.

There were also other notable touching moments that happened as the O’Briens sat around a fire sharing recent happy milestones, indicating what the future holds for them including the following.

Abby and Evan are engaged

Abby and Evan announced their engagement at the end of the series finale. The engagement took place after Evan had made peace with his past including the abuse that his mother faced, which resulted in their tragic accident when they attempted to escape.

Moreover, Evan made peace with his biological father which allowed him to look forward to the future. Abby said yes, after Mick handed over the construction company as he had plans to travel the world with Megan.

Part of his advice to Abby for taking up the role was not to allow the business to take over her life and that she should always make room for happiness.

Jesse and David are pregnant

For six seasons we watched as Jesse and David straddled between the decision of starting their own family or not.

But the married couple got a happy ending of their own as Jesse told David that she was ready to start working on starting a family.

Soon afterward, it was revealed that they did not have to wait as she was already pregnant with their first child.

Luke and Bree get their happy ending

It almost seemed like the only couple who would not get their happy ending was Luke and Bree. This is as Luke, after leaving the hospital against the wishes of the doctors, had believed he needed to get away to deal with his illness alone.

Therefore, he went to Bree to bid her farewell, suggesting that he did not want to be a burden. But Bree countered that he should not be making decisions about her feelings for her.

But Luke walked away and seemed like he was gone, until he surprised Bree with his return during the nuptials between Megan and Mick.
