Daemon most likely sings to the dragon, Vermithor, to calm it down so that it is easier to get the dragon on his and Rhaenyra’s side.
The context that House of the Dragon provides, as well as the new characters and plots that it introduces, are what make the show so good.
This includes Prince Daemon Targaryen, who is seen singing to a dragon in what is likely a bid to gain an advantage in the looming war between the Greens and the Blacks.
What makes House of the Dragon so fun to watch?
There are many different reasons why fans have enjoyed watching the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon so much.
This HBO series is based on the George R. R. Martin novel, Fire and Blood, and it takes place before the events pictured in Game of Thrones.

Thus, it helps to give viewers context to many of the unexplained feuds, relationships, and lineages that they may have misunderstood in the first series.
However, the show is not only enjoyable to watch because of its connection to Game of Thrones, it also stands on its own with the same spectacular costumes, score, sets, and special effects.
On top of that, it has a whole new storyline that focuses on the struggle between the Targaryen siblings for the Iron Throne after King Viserys dies.
House of the Dragon: Why does Daemon sing to the dragon?
One of the most interesting aspects of the House of the Dragon series is watching how the Targaryen siblings plot and scheme against each other as they each forge their own way towards the Iron Throne.
The youngest of these is Prince Daemon Targaryen, who is played by the actor, Matt Smith, who you may know from his other roles in Doctor Who and The Crown.
Daemon Targaryen frequently makes headlines and causes a ruckus on social media with his wild and strange antics in the show.
However, the most recent occurrence of Daemon’s name trending on various social media platforms after the ninth episode of the first season was quite strange, since his character did not even make an on-screen appearance during this episode.
The reason why Daemon was trending was because of the teaser trailer that HBO released at the end of the episode, where Daemon is seen singing in high Valyrian to a dragon.
Although there is still some speculation online, from the lore it is clear that this dragon is most likely Vermithor, who has been in his lair on Dragonstone since King Jahaerys, his rider, died.
Vermithor refused to take a new rider after King Jahaerys’s death, and it is evident that Daemon is singing to him in an attempt to calm him down and to prepare him to accept a new rider.
Daemon may be driven by many different motives in this moment, but one of the main drivers behind the action is likely the looming war between the Greens and the Blacks, in which Daemon and Rhaenyra will need all of the firepower that they can get, including as many dragons as possible.
Why is Daemon the one to sing to the dragon?
Although it does make sense that he would decide to risk his life in a daring stunt to enter Vermithor’s lair and try to calm or train a dragon that has not been seen for centuries by singing to it, especially with everything that we know about Daemon’s character from the first season.
However, there are some deeper factors that may also be driving Daemon.
Daemon clearly loves Rhaenyra and taming this dragon would be a great way to help her win back the throne and since he is King Jahaerys’ grandson, he should have a deeper bond with Vermithor, which may make it easier for him to tame this dragon.
How will this dragon help Daemon and Rhaenyra in a war?
There are some expected differences between the official lore and the way that House of the Dragon chooses to portray the original history and story.
However, if the lore is to be believed, Vermithor, who is also referred to as Bronze Fury, is one of the biggest dragons alive.
This will give Daemon and Rhaenyra a considerable advantage if a war does break out between the Greens and the Blacks.
What happens with Daemon’s dragon, Caraxes?
Since not much is clear about how the relationship between Daemon and Vermithor will play out yet, if the lore is to be believed, then viewers can rest easy knowing that Daemon will continue to ride Caraxes and he is just preparing Vermithor by singing to it, so that the dragon will become open to accepting a new rider.
