Is 8 Mile on Paramount Plus?

Is 8 Mile on Paramount Plus?

8 Mile is not available to stream on the Paramount Plus platform, but you can rent or buy the film on other platforms.

Most people know 8 Mile as the film that is loosely based on Eminem’s life, and it even stars the rapper in his first-ever lead role.  However, the film has some surprising emotional moments and an excellent soundtrack.

Unfortunately, even though the film is such a cult classic, it is not available on Paramount Plus.

What is 8 Mile about?

8 Mile is a semi-autobiographical story which follows a struggling white rapper called Jimmy Smith Jr also known as “Rabbit”, as he tries to make a name for himself in the music industry and get out of Detroit.

While the film was not exactly Eminem’s first acting job (some fans will remember his brief appearance as phone-stalker in The Wash), it was the first film in which he was the primary focus.

In light of this, he did a good enough job at portraying the lead role throughout, especially during the musical performances.

Even though the film seems predictable at first glance, it does feature some surprisingly heartfelt moments between Rabbit, his family, and his love-interest, Alex, which adds a different layer to the film altogether.

Is 8 Mile on Paramount Plus?

8 Mile was originally released in 2002 and became an instant hit at box-offices across the United States and with critics.

Eventually, the film raked in about $242.9 million worldwide, while the soundtrack of the film was certified quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

It did not take long for 8 Mile to become a cult classic film. However, even though the film is popular to this day, it can be difficult to find a streaming service that has it in their catalogue.

Paramount Plus, Paramount Global’s subscription-based streaming service, has over 30 000 episodes of series to watch and over 3000 movies in its catalogue, but it does not have 8 Mile.

8 Mile was originally distributed through Universal Pictures, hence, subsequently, it would be difficult for Paramount Global to license the film for use on their streaming platform.

Paramount Plus mostly has content from CBS Media Ventures Paramount Media Networks (formerly known as Viacom Media Networks) as well as films from Paramount Pictures, just as its predecessor, CBS All Access, did.

However, although 8 Mile is not available to stream on Paramount Plus, you can buy and rent the film from other platforms.

It is also worth noting that 50 Cent has announced that he is working on creating an 8 Mile spin-off series, and if this series is as successful as the original movie, this could generate enough interest in the franchise that other streaming platforms like Paramount Plus may consider licensing the film in the future.

Will the 8 Mile series be on Paramount Plus?

50 Cent announced in an interview with BigBoyTV in January 2023 that he is teaming up with Eminem to produce a television adaptation of 8 Mile and that this series is already in the works.

Not many other details have been released about this upcoming series, so it is still unclear which platform this series will air on or whether it will be available to stream.

However, 50 Cent did confirm that the show will be a modernised version of the original film, similar to what Peacock did with its Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot, simply titled “Bel-Air.”

Where to rent 8 Mile

Unfortunately, you will not find 8 Mile on any of the popular streaming service libraries. This includes sites like Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Disney plus, Peacock, and more.

If you are uninterested in owning 8 Mile permanently and you just want to watch the movie once or twice, you can still rent the movie on various platforms.

This option may not be entirely as convenient as simply streaming the film, but it is one of the closest alternatives.

Some of the sites from which you can buy the film, including Amazon Prime Video, Microsoft Store, Redbox, Vudu, DIRECTV and Google Play also allow you to rent the film for a shorter period at a reduced price of about $3.99.
