Devi and Ethan’s relationship has certainly been the latest buzzworthy topic for season four of Never Have I Ever. But they do eventually break up when Devi realizes that Ethan stole from the Princeton representative.
Never Have I Ever: Why did Devi and Ethan break up?
Devi, and who she should end up with, has always been one of the core questions in Never Have I Ever. Fortunately, now that the show has wrapped its fourth and final season, we finally have our answer.
Heading into this fourth season, the outcome of Devi’s love life seemed even more uncertain than ever before and after a mishap with Ben, Devi got involved with her newly-hot classmate, Ethan.
At this point, it seems that although everyone around Devi can see that Ethan is not boyfriend material, Devi is much too in love with him to notice.
It takes Devi discovering that Ethan stole the wallet of a Princeton college admissions representative, to realize that he is not just playing up the bad boy act, but he is, in fact, a bad person, for her to break up with him.
Did Ethan love Devi?
Devi and Ethan’s relationship definitely brought out a new, more confident Devi, but it was doomed from the beginning.
All of Devi’s friends (and even Ms. Warner) could see that this relationship was only dragging Devi down, and that it was not going to last in the long term.
The actor who plays Ethan, Michael Cimino, even confirmed this by saying that Ethan was simply “just a catalyst” for Devi’s growth as a character.
Devi did give Akshara her wallet back
When Devi comes to her senses and breaks up with Ethan, she also has to swallow her pride and go back to the Princeton representative, Akshara, to explain what Ethan had done.
This is moment is incredibly awkward, especially after Devi had made such a poor impression earlier on in the episode. But Akshara ends up commending her for her honesty.

Once Ethan was out of the picture and Devi and Paxton decided that they were better off as friends, it seemed as though Devi would be ending the show single.
