Erika Rogers’ death on S.W.A.T. may have been shocking, but it did help to make the episode more impactful.
Erika Rogers’s unexpected death and Lyndie Greenwood’s subsequent departure from S.W.A.T. is proof that sometimes characters need to die in order for a story to truly hit close to home.
Why did Erika Rogers leave S.W.A.T.?
There is nothing quite like an underdog story to get fans of a television series fired up for a new character. Unfortunately, this is also what made Erika Rogers’s death so absolutely heart wrenching.
Especially since it came so soon after she had finally gotten the chance to fill in for Deacon on the 20-David team and agreed to move in with Chris.
Although this “Crusade” episode was jam-packed with action and intrigue, Erika Rogers’s (who is played by Lyndie Greenwood on the show) departure was much less dramatic.
There was no real indication of any behind-the-scenes drama between Greenwood and the producers of the show.
And though scheduling conflicts are usually to blame when such a popular character is written off so suddenly, the series did not make an official statement to confirm this.
In the end, it seems like Greenwood’s character, Erika Rogers, was simply written off as a means to heighten the tragedy of the Imperial Dukes’ pointless violence and hatred.
There is no bad blood between Lyndie Greenwood and the S.W.A.T. team
The exact reason why Greenwood left S.W.A.T. or the reason why the show killed off such a popular character may always remain a mystery, but one thing that does seem true, is that Greenwood left the S.W.A.T. set on a good note.
She even took to Instagram on January 29, 2021, to bid the character farewell and ended her message with a sweet and simple “Was a fun ride with a great crew.”
Lyndie Greenwood needed a break from acting
When Greenwood first split from S.W.A.T., there was some speculation that she would be taking a small hiatus from acting, but Greenwood did not confirm this until she did an interview on Q with Tom Power in 2023.
During this interview, Greenwood admits that she had “fallen out of love with acting” in 2021, around the time that she left the series.
What is Lyndie Greenwood up to now?
Fortunately, a few years later, it seems like Greenwood’s love for acting has been reignited, and she is even starring in the CTV comedy series Shelved, which started airing earlier this year.
Recently, she starred in a holiday film called Holiday Heritage, which was released in December 2022.
Moreover, Greenwood regularly shares updates on her social media pages about all of the fun things that she does with her family.
