Gwen betrayed Miles by sticking with Miguel and the Spider Society because she was still caught up in avoiding her own bad fate.

This film not only reveals secrets about Miles’s life and future, but also exposes the fact that Gwen betrayed him out of loyalty to the Spider Society and in order to escape her own fate.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse – Why did Gwen betray Miles?
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has finally been released and the film is jam-packed with more alternate realities and spider-people than you can keep track of.
This film has also complicated the already unsteady relationship between Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy.
Throughout the course of the film, it is revealed that Gwen and the rest of the Spider Society knew all along that Miles was an anomaly.
They also knew that (spoiler alert) his fate has determined that his father would die saving a child, while Miles is busy fighting his nemesis, The Spot.
Gwen betrays Miles by not informing him of this destiny and actively working against his plans, alongside the rest of the Spider Society.
This is because she is loyal to Miguel and is trying to escape her own, doomed fate in the process.
Why is Gwen so loyal to the Spider Society?
This film reveals at the very beginning that Gwen actually caused the death of her universe’s Peter Parker.
To make matters worse, her father, the police captain, witnessed the event and became hell-bent on trying to bring down Spider-Woman.
As a result, Gwen is forced to escape into the Multiverse and join the Spider Society.
And because her own fate determines that her father will also die while she fights a super villain, she remains with the Spider Society and Miguel, to avoid returning to her own dimension.
Will Miles and Gwen end up together?
By the end of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Miguel kicks Gwen out of the Spider Society.
Fortunately, at this point, Miles has convinced her that they may actually have a shot at changing their canon moments and she assembles a team to help her protect Miles from the Spider Society, instead.
At this point it is still entirely possible that they will eventually end up together.
Which spider-people join Gwen’s team?
Once Gwen decides to find and help Miles, she decides that she will need all of the help that she can get if she has to go up against the Spider Society.
This team includes all the other friendly Into the Spider-Verse faces like Peter B. Parker, Spider Noir, Peni Parker and Spider-Ham. Spider-Punk also joins Gwen’s team, purely to spite Miguel.
