Why did Frodo Baggins leave Middle-Earth?

Fans were confused after witnessing Frodo Baggins leave Middle-earth in Return Of The King, as it was revealed that Frodo suffered injuries and was hoping to find peace in the Undying Lands.

The Lord Of The Rings is a series of three epic fantasy films directed by Peter Jackson, based on the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien.

The films are set in the fictional world of Middle-Earth and follow a hobbit, Frodo Baggins, as he and the Fellowship embark on a quest to destroy the One Ring. This is to ensure the destruction of its maker, the Dark Lord Sauron.

At the end of the final and third film of the trilogy, Lord Of The Rings: Return Of The King, Frodo is seen making the decision to leave his ancestral home, Middle-Earth, for the legendary realm known as the Undying Lands.

Fans never quite understood why Frodo left. According to the book series, he had to leave Middle-Earth due to his injuries. He suffered multiple wounds during the stories, and two of them took their toll on the hobbit.

In the movie, Fellowship Of The Ring, fans saw the hobbits being ambushed by the Ringwraiths, which are creatures whose main goal is to serve Sauron and find the Ring. Frodo used the Ring to hide from the creatures but was stabbed in the shoulder by the Witch-King.

A year later, in Return Of The King when Frodo and Samwise were in the tunnels on their way to Mordor, they had a horrific confrontation with Shelob, a giant spider.

The hobbits tried to escape, but Shelob attacked Frodo and used her stinger to poison him. Frodo recovered and did not let his injury stop him from achieving his goal and destroying the Ring at the end of the movie.

The hobbit experienced various emotional and physical trauma during the series, but perhaps what bothered Frodo the most was the annual return of the two injuries.

On the anniversary of the injuries, he would experience the pain all over again. This meant that Frodo could never psychologically move on from what he experienced.

The only way for Frodo to find peace was for him to leave Middle-Earth and head to the Undying Lands, hoping that the mystical realm would heal his injuries forever.
