It is reported that he did so to distance himself from the character he had become known for and take on new roles instead.
The decision was made after six seasons on the award-winning crime drama, which he appeared on since the pilot episode.
Special Agent Christopher Laselle was killed off after being shot whilst trying to defend a woman he thought he was helping.
Christopher toyed with the emotions of viewers before peacefully passing away in the hospital, surrounded by the other lead actors.
In a 2019 interview with TV Insider, showrunners, Christopher Silber and Jan Nash, explained that they were well aware that Lucas would want to pursue other career opportunities and were not opposed to him taking on other roles.
They explained that the only request that they had was that the actor allow them to kill off the character in a dignified way, as a way to celebrate his heroism.
