Behind Reality TV

Why fuboTV is no longer worth its premium price

Why fuboTV is no longer worth its premium price

Unless you are interested in content offered exclusively through fuboTV, this television streaming service comes with too many caveats to make it worth its price.

fuboTV has always been among the top television streaming services which offer a suitable alternative for cord cutters who still want access to as many of their old cable television channels as possible.

But like many other streaming services, fuboTV has gotten more expensive with every new year, and with the service introducing several new additional costs at the beginning of 2023, many longtime subscribers are rethinking this monthly expense.

When fuboTV was first introduced in 2015, it stood out as one of the only sports-focused streaming services on the market.

And while the service does still offer a wide array of channels, including a few sports-fan-favorites like ESPN, Fox Sports, and beIN Sports, the lack of content from the Turner Network channels and some of the WarnerMedia channels, means that for many, this streaming service is just no longer worth its premium price.

In fact, if you are not interested in the service’s regional sports coverage, it may be well worth your time to explore other, more affordable televisions streaming services on the market, instead.

The current fuboTV packages and pricing

Whether you are considering switching to or away from fuboTV in the future, it is safest to review the service’s current plans and pricing, which can be summarized as follows:

Plan Price Channels Simultaneous streams and DVR storage
Pro $74.99 per month Over 150 Up to 19 simultaneous streams and 1,000 hours of DVR storage
Elite $84.99 per month Over 210 Up to 19 simultaneous streams and 1,000 hours of DVR storage
Premiere $94.99 per month Over 250 Up to 19 simultaneous streams and 1,000 hours of DVR storage
Latino $32.99 per month Over 45 Up to 2 simultaneous streams and 250 hours of DVR storage

fuboTV also has a variety of special add-on packages, which will give you access to a select few bonus channels in addition to your regular package, and range between $4.99 and $19.99 extra monthly.

Channels that you won’t be able to watch with fuboTV

One of the reasons why fuboTV has always been among the most popular television streaming services, is because even on the service’s most affordable Pro plan, subscribers get access to more than 100 different channels, with a range of add-ons at their disposal.

However, the service notably dropped all of the Turner Network channels from its lineup in 2020 (including fan-favorite channels like TNT, CNN, truTV, the Cartoon Network and TBS).

This was a real blow for baseball and basketball fans. fuboTV is now also missing key content from channels like HBO, A&E, TCM, CNN Español and CNN International.

Regional sports fans should also take note of the fact that tuning in to watch RSNs may incur an additional not-so hidden RSN-fee of up to $13.99 monthly, which you will not be able to opt out of.

The problem with fuboTV’s streaming

FuboTV has tried to make its interface a tad more user-friendly through the years, but just like with the service’s pricing models, the devil here is often hiding in the details.

FuboTV is often touted as one of the only streaming services which offers content in 4K streaming quality, but this is only for very limited events, and only if your device is compatible with the HDR10 display.

Furthermore, the service’s “up to 10 simultaneous streams” rule only applies if you are watching from several different types of devices.

If you want to stream fuboTV content directly on your television, you will only be able to do so on one television device at a time.

How fuboTV compares to other television streaming services

When fuboTV was first introduced, it was definitely a groundbreaker in the world of television streaming, but as time has progressed, other television streaming services have caught up.

And although the best television streaming service for you will be determined by a number of different factors, some of the most popular television streaming services, and how they compare to fuboTV on a basic level, are outlined below.
