Xfinity removes INSP after price hike earlier this year

Comcast Xfinity has removed INSP from some of its packages, even after increasing its prices at the beginning of this year.

There may be a wealth of content available all across the world, but sometimes returning to the oldies on INSP is just as entertaining.

Unfortunately though, Comcast Xfinity subscribers who used to get access to INSP through the Digital Starter, Popular TV or Extra packages, will now have to move to the More Sports & Entertainment Package for this content.

About the INSP channel

It can be easy to get overwhelmed with the sheer volume and variety of content on offer these days, which is why many people prefer to stick to old favorites.

INSP (which the older fans among us may still remember as “The Inspiration Network”) is one such network that remains a favorite among western fans to this day.

INSP contains a variety of wild-west-themed movies and television shows, including shows like Campmeeting, Cowboy Showdown, Bonanza, Branded, Cheyenne, Gunsmoke, Rawhide, Wagon Train and many, many more.

INSP has been a go-to for many Americans who are feeling nostalgic for their favorite old westerns through the years, and Comcast’s Xfinity packages have become one of the most convenient ways to access this network.

That is until Xfinity decided that INSP should “get out of Dodge” starting on September 8, 2023.

Comcast’s Xfinity has been under fire from both new and old subscribers for some time, as the company has been steadily increasing its “hidden” fees (such as the Broadcast TV Fee, the TV Box Fee, the Regional Sports Fee, the Internet Modem Rental Fee, and even the Basic Cable Service Fee) for years now.

These fees can make up almost half of your monthly Xfinity bill and has resulted in price increases of up to 18% percent for some Xfinity subscribers, since the start of 2023.

And while periodic price increases are not necessarily cause for concern, it does tend to ruffle some feathers when the channels on offer keep disappearing to more expensive packages.

As a result, Xfinity subscribers who have signed on for the Digital Starter, Popular TV or Extra packages, or the Entertainment genre pack, will no longer have access to INSP.

They will then need to upgrade to the service’s more expensive More Sports & Entertainment Package if they want to continue enjoying all of these shows in the future.

Xfinity has tried to explain this controversial move by playing it off as something that was done so that they can continue offering “a wide variety of content at the best value.”

But this has done little to pacify longtime subscribers who are still paying the regular price for a package that no longer offers them the content that they signed up for.

What you need to know about the More Sports & Entertainment Package

While it may sting to have to change your Xfinity package, just so that you can continue watching INSP content, the More Sports & Entertainment Package is not all that bad.

The More Sports & Entertainment Package is just $9.95 per month. This package, as its name suggests, focuses mostly on sports-content and it features channels like NFL RedZone, CBS Sports Network, Outdoor Channel, MLB Network and more.

But fans of classic westerns may also appreciate some of the package’s more refined options, which include channels like the Military History Channel, Turner Classic Movies and CMT.

Alternative options

If you are not interested in changing your Xfinity package at this time, Xfinity has offered the not-so helpful suggestion of scrolling through the some of the other western content that may still be available on your current Xfinity plan.

To do this, you can simply say “Westerns” into your Xfinity Voice Remote or search for the term “Westerns” in the On Demand content.

Do not get your hopes up too soon, however, as you will not be able to access a plethora of popular shows like Laramie, High Chaparral, Cheyenne, or Tails of Wells Fargo this way.

Other services that will give you access to INSP content

Fortunately for Xfinity subscribers who have been disgruntled to find that they can no longer access INSP via their subscription plan, there are several other options to look into.

You can even access INSP content without an active cable subscription, through streaming services like Sling TV, Fubo TV, Philo TV, FRNDLY TV, Vidco, Select TV, Evoca TV.

Most of these services even offer a one-week free trial, which gives you the chance to test out the platform and its offer before you commit to another monthly subscription.
