Baking Impossible is the Netflix baking competition hosted by Justin Willman, with judges Andrew Smyth, Joanne Chang, and Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi.
In terms of cooking and baking reality shows, arguably little has been innovative in recent years, as most are premised on the tropes that can be found in other shows. Therefore, it is no surprise that Netflix viewers gravitated to Baking Impossible.
Premiering in October 2021, the baking competition reality-format saw nine teams of two, consisting of a baker and an engineer, compete to win the title of the “Best bakineers” and the cash prize of $100 000.
The judges who chose the winner of season one were Andrew Smyth, Joanne Chang, and Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi.
Who is the host of Baking Impossible?
Seeing as the premise of Baking Impossible is converging baking and science in a fun and creative way, it is only fitting that the show was hosted by a personality that embodies this.
Hence the first season of the show was hosted by American magician and comedian, Justin Willman. Those who have followed the personality may know him by his first stage name, Justin Kredible.
Willman has a longstanding relationship with Netflix, as this is not the first show he hosted on the platform. That credit goes to the Netflix original, Magic for Humans.
Baking Impossible: Judges, host, and who won season 1?
Baking Impossible ensured that the judging panel of the show represented each spectrum of the show’s premise and where the convergence is through its judging panel.
Therefore, the first judge is Andrew Smyth, who also serves as the executive producer of the show. Credited with the fact that the show’s premise is his brainchild as it was inspired by two of his biggest passions, baking and science. As a result of this, Smyth is considered the head judge.
Moreover, the name and face of the head judge may be familiar as he first made his television debut on the popular baking show, The Great British Bake Off during the 2013 season of the BBC flagship show.
The other two judges are brought on board as representation for each discipline. Joanne Chang is a two-time James Beard winner, which is the most prestigious accolade a chef can get.
Her speciality is pastry, as she is the owner of Flour Bakery and Cafe, which reportedly has 10 outlets across the US.
Dr Hakeem Oluseyi rounds up the judging panel and he is responsible for judging and advising the engineers, since this is his expertise.
Oluseyi has extensive experience as he has worked for the Florida Institute of Technology for 12 years. Before that, the judge reportedly also worked for NASA and for Discovery Communications.
Who won Baking Impossible season 1?
Season one of Baking Impossible was released as a split-cour. The first six episodes of season one were released on Wednesday, 6 October 2021.
Following the availability of the first six episodes, fans had to wait a week until Wednesday, 13 October 2021, for the last two episodes to be released so that they could find out who won the title of Best bakineers.
Team Sara and Rodolfo won the first season after they designed a cake that was able to withstand a number of stress tests, including shaking the cake as if an earthquake was happening.
Where is season 2 of Baking Impossible?
Currently, there is no season two of Baking Impossible. Netflix has neither confirmed nor suggested that there will or will not be a second season of the show.
This is not too surprising, considering that while the show did receive favourable reviews from insiders and Netflix subscribers, it was not necessarily a priority show.
Therefore, Netflix may confirm the show closer to the release of the new season if the paid subscription video-on-demand streaming service renews the series.
Smyth, who is the executive producer of the show, has also not shared any news suggesting an imminent return of the show on his Instagram.
When will season 2 of Baking Impossible be released?
Seeing as though season two of Baking Impossible has not been confirmed, predicting a release date would purely be based on speculation.
However, considering the pattern of releases adopted by Netflix, which is to release renewed shows and series around the same time as the previous season.
We can expect that if Baking Impossible is renewed for a second season, the show might be released on Netflix between October and November of 2022.
However, if the show does not return, it may suggest that Netflix did decide not to greenlight the show for a second season.
