Everything you need to know about Chris from A Nearly Normal Family

One of A Nearly Normal Family’s shadiest characters is played by the up-and-coming Swedish actor Christian Fandango.

Netflix’s newest hit thriller, A Nearly Normal Family, is actually a Swedish drama which gets its story from a M.T. Edvardsson novel of the same name.

This limited series, which has taken the world by storm, follows Stella, a 19-year old who sees her life completely changed around after a series of unfortunate events. This ultimately ended up making her the prime suspect in a murder investigation.

Christian Fandango’s role as Chris Olsen

Despite its rather sweet title, this six-episode limited series delves into some dark subject matter and even darker characters.

And while the narrative has enough twists, turns and unexpected revelations to make you doubt almost every one of its characters at one point or another, (spoiler alert for the information to follow) there is one character which stands out as one of its clear villains.

Christian Fandango’s Christoffer “Chris” Olsen may start out as the show’s main victim, but as the story unfolds, it becomes quite evident that something much more sinister was hiding beneath the surface of this character, all along.

The rest of the A Nearly Normal Family cast

Fandango is not the only member of A Nearly Normal Family who has suddenly become an international celebrity, seemingly overnight.

But though many of these names may seem new to some fans tuning in (subtitles and all)  watching from overseas, they are not all new up-and comers, like Fandango and the series’ star, Alexandra Karlsson Tyrefors (who portrays Stella Sandell).

In fact, the cast of Netflix’s A Nearly Normal Family and some of their most notable roles outside of this hit series, can be outlined as follows:

Name Role Other notable roles
Björn Bengtsson Adam Sandell In The Last Kingdom (2015), The Unlikely Murderer (2021), Bröderna Karlsson (2010) and more.
Melisa Ferhatovic Amina Besic In La Tormenta Sueca (2021) and Tunna blå linjen (2021).
Lo Kauppi Ulrika Sandell In Drifters (2015), 6A (2016), The New Man (2007) and more.
Håkan Bengtsson Mikael Blomberg In The Hunt for a Killer (2020) and I Am Zlatan (2021).
Moa Gammel Jenny Jansdotter In Jordskott (2015), Tommy (2014), Livet i Fagervik (2009) and more.

How Christian Fandango approached the role of Chris

Although A Nearly Normal Family has only been out for a couple of weeks at this point, and the cast has not yet had enough time to dive too deeply into their experiences on set, Fandago has explained some of his process in a Talking Heads interview with SF Studios.

In this interview, Fandango explains that he prefers not to make too many decisions about the characters that he portrays before he gets to the set.

And from that point, he lets things like the environment and the costumes guide him as to who he feels his character truly is. Who would have thought that a sleek and modern apartment set could conjure up such horribly evil emotions?

What Christian Fandango is doing now

Whilst A Nearly Normal Family’s Chris is quite adept at using social media as a form of communication, the real-life Fandago does not maintain any kind of public online presence.

However, just because he does not post about new upcoming projects on social media, it does not mean that he has not been busy behind the scenes.

Besides his now breakout role in A Nearly Normal Family (which has earned a place in many different Netflix Top 10 lists worldwide), he has also landed roles in The Mallorca Files, Stormskerry Maja and The Egghead Republic in 2023.

Fandango was also featured briefly as ‘Tobias’ in a few episodes of different Netflix thriller called Barracuda Queens, earlier in 2023.

Christian Fandango’s other projects

If you enjoyed Fandango’s Hans-from-Frozen-like portrayal of Chris, then you may want to check out some of the other notable projects that the young actor has been involved in throughout the last couple of years.

This includes stage productions like the 2018 Teater Tre production of Macbeth and several short films like Vill Mer (2019), Inte en Riktig Våldtäkt (2019) and Vägar (2018).

He has also had roles in television productions like Cryptid (2019), Thunder in My Heart (2021), Eagles (2021), Händelser Vid Vatten (2022) and more.

Fandago even won the award for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ (for his role in Break of Day) at the 2019 World Premiere Film Awards.

And if the fan-fare around A Nearly Normal Family is anything to go by, Fandango’s name will likely soon be popping up on many new cast lists all over the world as time goes on.
