Melisa Ferhatovic – A Nearly Normal Family’s Amina

A Nearly Normal Family has become one of Netflix’s shows-to-watch, and Melisa Ferhatovic did not disappoint in the role of Amina.

Any good courtroom thriller is bound to make you doubt the motives of every person involved in the case.

But few modern true-crime type thrillers reach the kind of sick and twisted turns and twists that Netflix’s new ‘A Nearly Normal’ Family does.

This limited series is a Swedish drama (En Helt Vanlig Familj) which is based on the equally compelling novel by the same name, from the pen of M.T. Edvardsson.

And just like the novel, it follows Stella Sandell (an increasingly tragic character) and the seemingly regular group of family members and friends who surround her as she is tried for murder after a series of complicated events.

And while Alexandra Karlsson Tyrefors (who plays the show’s leading character, Stella), and Björn Bengtsson and Lo Kauppi (who plays Stella’s parents, Adam and Ulrika Sandell) carry most of the show’s narrative weight, a few of its other characters have also become fan-favorites.

This includes Melisa Ferhatovic, who plays Amina Besic, Stella’s best friend who (without spoiling too much of this absolutely gripping trial) inadvertently also gets dragged into the investigation and the horrible events that precede it.

In the end, Ferhatovic absolutely shines in this aspiring lawyer and on-again, off-again best friend role and has managed to make the jump to the international market seem quite effortless alongside her fellow A Nearly Normal Family cast mates.

A Nearly Normal Family is a limited series which Netflix describes as a cerebral, understated and suspenseful Swedish drama.

Though Ferhatovic will arguably now always be known for her role as Amina on A Nearly Normal Family, this young actress had already started making a name for herself in the Swedish entertainment industry, even before she landed this breakthrough supporting role.

Ferhatovic has actually portrayed the starring role of ‘Vera’ in the Roberto Duarte series La Tormenta Sueca, which aired a total of 10 episodes in 2021.

Furthermore, she also made a brief appearance as a waitress in one episode of the crime-focused series, Tunna blå linjen, which started airing in 2021.

What Melisa Ferhatovic is up to now

It is not every day that a so-called “Nordic Noir” limited series enjoys the kind of global fan-fare that A Nearly Normal Family has enjoyed so far.

In fact, right now it seems like Ferhatovic, who has only had a few foreign-language credits on her resume up to this point, is trying her best to keep up with her newfound fame.

The young actress recently posted a series of stills from the series on her Instagram page, paired with a caption which explains how grateful she is for all of the support and positive feedback that the series has drummed up and showing her appreciation for the fans who have watched the show.

An, from her earlier November 25 post, it seems like the A Nearly Normal Family’s cast have all remained close, even with the relative chaos which ensued after the show’s global release on Netflix.

Will we see more of Melisa Ferhatovic in the future?

A Nearly Normal Family quickly climbed the ranks after its November 24, 2023 release, and even made it all the way to the streamer’s Top 10 list of shows in the United States within its first week.

While this would usually prompt streaming services like Netflix to renew the series for another season as soon as possible, there are many different variables to consider.

In this case, with A Nearly Normal Family being branded a limited series, there is a possibility that it may never return for a second season.

However, even the film’s director, Per Hanefjord, told media brand, TIME that he feels like the success of this series has made “new film stars” out of the cast.

And if this is true, there is a very good possibility that we will be seeing more of Ferhatovic very soon (even if A Nearly Normal Family ends with its current six episodes).
